Top SACA Premier Cricket men’s players to watch in the grand final, including Daniel Drew, Kelvin Smith, Tim Oakley

This weekend’s SACA Premier Cricket grand final is fast-approaching. Ahead of the big dance, we’ve listed the Tea Tree Gully and West Torrens stars to watch.

SACA Premier Cricket: Bailey Capel hits 100 against Kensington

SACA Premier Cricket’s grand final was set in stone over the weekend, with surprise team Tea Tree Gully and an in-form West Torrens both cementing their spots in the big dance.

Tea Tree Gully’s Adam Somerfield took an impressive five wickets against Kensington to lead the Bulls to semi-final glory, while Kelvin Smith (159 runs) and Daniel Drew (98 runs) both dominated at the crease for the Eagles to eliminate top side Sturt.

It will be the first time the two teams clash this season after their original matchup was scrapped due to rain.

We’ve listed the players to watch from both clubs ahead of the weekend’s big game.

Oakley has played a significant role in Tea Tree Gully’s unlikely rise to second spot on the ladder in 2021-22 and will be a major key to any Bulls success this finals series.

The star fast bowler has taken 12 wickets over his last three games, including a massive seven against Adelaide three weeks ago to set up an important outright win, and took an important double against Kensington at the weekend.

He’ll need another good spell with the ball this weekend against West Torrens if his side wants to taste premiership success.

Patrick Page

Page seems to have hit form at just the right time, and is a player Tea Tree Gully will want to fire with the bat on Saturday or Sunday.

His 80-run performance against East Torrens set his side up to take second spot on the ladder from Kensington, and he followed that up with a team-high 53 runs against the Browns last weekend.

West Torrens will be aiming to dismiss Page as soon as it can.

Adam Somerfield

Somerfield’s performance in last weekend’s semi-final won the Bulls through to the grand final, and if he can reproduce that level of bowling, they might just win an unlikely title.

While Oakley took the top order names, Somerfield completely tore through Kensington’s middle order to set up the win.

Darren Ironside

Tea Tree Gully’s opener hung tough for his side against Kensington, scoring 49 valuable runs off of 124 deliveries.

Ironside has scored nearly 400 runs this season, and would be hoping to make a significant mark on that total come Saturday.

He also has 19 wickets and has proved handy with the ball, another facet of his game which could help win his club the premiership.

West Torrens

Daniel Drew

One of the best batters in the competition this year, Drew continued his remarkable year with another strong display against Sturt, tallying 98 runs.

The performance came as no surprise - Drew has multiple big scores for West Torrens this season, including a record-breaking 214 not out late last year.

The Eagles captain would be desperate to win his side the two-day premiership after also grabbing the one-day title this season.

Jordan Buckingham

Buckingham played another important role for West Torrens last weekend, taking three wickets against Sturt.

The right-arm quick took the important wickets of Spoors, Davis and Matthias to support fellow bowlers Spencer Johnson and Daniel Fallins.

If Buckingham can produce another dangerous spell with the ball, the Eagles will be hard to stop.

Kelvin Smith

Smith’s innings against the Blues was one of the best this season.

With Bailey Capel falling early, Smith had to dig deep and put a total together, and he did just that.

Playing some brilliant shots, Smith stayed in for 208 balls and tallied a sensational 159 runs.

If he can settle in quickly again this weekend, the Tea Tree Gully attack will have a lot to think about.

Daniel Fallins

Fallins took two wickets of high importance against Sturt, dismissing opener Jacob Dick just after he made his century and taking tail-ender Seb Young to end the Blues’ innings.

The talented leg-spinner usually follows a quieter performance with a big one, which could mean he’s due for a major showing in the season’s biggest game.

Tea Tree Gully’s batters will have their work cut out for them against Fallins and co.

The SACA Premier Cricket grand final will be played at Glenelg Oval and will begin at 10.30am on Saturday.
