Top local SA footy finals performers of the week revealed

Local SA footy finals kicked off over the weekend and we’ve picked the top performers of round one. See who stood out for their club.

Finals footy is underway across SA’s local competitions as the state’s top clubs battle for silverware in 2024.

See our top performers of week one below.

ALEX BARNS

One of the top players in division four this season, Barns needs a big finals series for the Roos if they want to go all the way, and he has started brilliantly.

The star utility was dominant against Hectorville in the elimination final, controlling the game out of the middle in ruck and also having an impact up front with two majors.

JONATHON BEECH

Star 2024 recruit Jonathon Beech was at his best for Barmera Monash in a 53-50 second semi final win over Riverland FL rival Renmark.

A dominant key forward who can also impact the contest, Beech took a number of big marks and booted four important four goals for the hosts to put them into this year’s grand final.

JORDAN CLEMENTS

(Kimba)

A major addition for Kimba this season, Clements showed his worth with a dominant performance against Ports in round one of the Eastern Eyre FL finals.

An important presence on the ball, Clements’ ability to win the footy and burst from stoppage to find teammates with efficiency or set up goalkicking opportunities was integral.

JAKE CORSTENS

(Kangarilla)

Kangarilla made a statement with its big win over Meadows in round one of the Hills Country Division finals and Corstens was a major factor in the result.

Playing around the ground through most of the 2024 season, Corstens played forward on Saturday and was dominant with five goals and a number of goal assists.

LUKE GODFREY

(Roxby Districts)

A star for Roxby Districts through a number of seasons, Godfrey produced one of his best displays of 2024 in Saturday’s Far North Football League grand final against Hornridge.

A versatile player who can impact the game in a number of ways, Godfrey made his presence felt up front with smart leads, strong marking and efficient goalkicking to give Miners the win over the Magpies for back-to-back premierships.

MITCH GRIGG

(Athelstone)

Grigg was at his best for the Raggies on Saturday but it was not enough to help his side to a win, with host Rostrevor OC emerging as the 60-50 victor.

The dual Magarey Medallist was highly influential around the ground with his ability to win the contested ball and he also booted three goals.

NOAH HYDE

(Colonel Light Gardens)

Emerging division five star Noah Hyde was big for the Lions in a 92-89 win over Marion in the first qualifying final.

A hard worker around the ground who racks up disposals and cuts up opposition with his disposal, Hyde was at his best against the Rams.

BRAYDEN LAUDER

(Kilburn)

A consistent midfielder for Kilburn throughout 2024, Lauder was key to the side’s thrilling one-goal win over Westminster OS in the division four qualifying final.

Relentless in the contest, Lauder won a number of important possessions for the Chics and applied strong tackle pressure to help his side lock the Dragons down in the dying minutes.

FRED MCCLURE

(Pembroke OS)

The Kings upset North Haven away from home in the division three elimination final and McClure’s performance on the ball and up front was a huge part of the win.
A skilled player with the ability to set up his teammates with efficient disposal or boot goals himself, McClure kicked three important majors for his side to lead them to a semi final clash with Lockleys.

ANDREW STONE

(West Gambier)

A star midfielder for West Gambier, Stone produced a top display against North Gambier in the Limestone Coast Football League first semi.

Stone battled hard on the ball to win possession for his side and create for his teammates while also moving up front to hit the scoreboard for two goals in a 64-37 win.
