Top 40 SA Premier and Turf cricketers of the season revealed

Local cricket finals are just around the corner in both SA Premier and Turf cricket competitions and we’ve listed the standout men’s and women’s players of the season. See who made the cut.

'21 days benched': Seismic concussion changes for sport

The local SA cricket season is nearing the end and a number of stars have put on a show yet again during the 2023-2024 campaign.

With finals right around the corner, we’ve named the top 40 performers of the season in both the SACA Premier Cricket and Adelaide Turf Cricket Association men’s and women’s competitions.

Here is our list in alphabetical order.

ANTHONY ADLAM

(Woodville)

Woodville’s most consistent performer this season across all formats, Adlam has been dangerous with the bat.

Has produced a number of strong innings through his campaign, including a standout 145 not out against top side Glenelg in round three.

TOM ANDREWS

(Port Adelaide)

A star for the Magpies this season, Andrews has been a key part of his side’s batting order throughout the entire 2023-2024 campaign.

Andrews has tallied 433 runs so far at an impressive average of 72.17.

JOSH BARRETT

(East Torrens)

The former Southern District captain has been a star for East Torrens so far this season, making runs for fun at the top of the order.

Barrett has amassed 401 runs so far at an average of 40.1.

SAMANTHA BETTS

(Sturt)

A talented all-rounder for the Blues, Betts has put together a top season in women’s Premier Cricket.

Is capable of winning games with the bat or with the ball, highlighted in a dominant round seven performance against Glenelg which saw her make 93 runs and take 3/29.

WILL BOWERING

(Glenelg)

One of the top bowlers in SACA Premier Cricket this season, Bowering has been exceptional for the Seahorses.

Often the X-factor for his side, the talented leg-spinner has taken a total of 26 wickets so far for a return of just 12.54 runs a game.

Will be key for Glenelg in this year’s two-day finals.

CALLUM BRODRICK

(Goodwood)

Co-captain of Goodwood, Brodrick remains one of the top ATCA all-rounders.

Brodrick’s standout performance came against Woodville South early in the season in which he scored 99 first inning runs and a 101 not out in the second innings.

He has made over 400 and counting for the season.

GRANT CAREY

(Para Hills)

An exciting and effective bowler, longtime Para Hills star Grant Carey has been at his best for his club this season.

Carey has been one of his side’s most damaging bowlers and has taken 21 wickets so far to remain a major part of the club’s undefeated run at the top of the A1 turf ladder.

HARRY CATON

(Para Hills)

Caton has been one of Para Hills’ most damaging batters, producing consistently in the top or middle of his club’s order.

Has made 350 runs total in Turf Cricket so far, including a dominant 100 not out performance against Woodville South two weeks ago.

RACHEL CHURCH

(Kensington)

A top batter in women’s Premier Cricket, Church has been consistently damaging for Kensington this season and will continue to make an impact in finals.

Has 339 runs for the Browns so far at an average of 67.8.

TAMARA CLAPTON

(Para Hills)

The top all-rounder in women’s turf cricket, Clapton has been a dominant force for top side Para Hills this season.

The club captain has made a huge 714 runs so far this season including a 116 not out against Sturt and a 170 not out against Adelaide Uni.

Clapton has also taken nearly 30 wickets including a 6/3 display against West Torrens.

MAGGIE CLARK

(West Torrens)

A superstar young quick bowler with elite potential who has represented SA and Australia, Clark has been at her best for the Eagles in 2023-2024.

Has taken over 20 wickets for West Torrens so far and has also developed into a handy mid to top order batter, tallying a number of totals of over 30 or 40 runs.

JO COOKE

(Reynella)

With over 300 runs to her name this season, Reynella vice-captain Jo Cooke has been among the best batters in women’s turf cricket.

A consistent opener, Cooke has tallied 30 or more runs on seven separate occasions, with a top performance of 62 against Adelaide Uni.

Is also a handy bowler, tallying nearly 20 wickets with a 3/1 performance her best performance of the season so far.

ISAAC CONWAY

(Port Adelaide)

A reliable wicketkeeper for Port Adelaide, Conway has been an important presence behind the stumps and at the crease for his side.

Experienced a slow start with the bat this season but has picked up his form during the business end in both the one-day and two-day formats, recently making an important 109 against Tea Tree Gully.

SHAE DALY

(Kensington)

A consistent and dangerous bowler for Kensington, Daly has been a major part of the Browns’ success so far in 2023-2024.

Has taken 24 wickets and counting at a return of just 9.63 runs per match.

EMMA DE BROUGHE

(Sturt)

A longtime superstar of the women’s Premier Cricket competition, De Broughe has dominated as an open bowler who can also produce with the ball in the Sturt attack.

De Broughe has made multiple centuries through all formats to tally nearly 400 runs this season.

Her best performance so far this season was a 99-run and four wicket showing in a win over top side Kensington.

ELIZA DODDRIDGE

(Kensington)

A star leader for Kensington, Doddridge has impressed for the Browns yet again in 2023-2024 as a skilled all-rounder

Doddridge has made over 200 runs for her side as an opening batter this season and has also taken 20 wickets.

JOSH DOYLE

(Kensington)

Captain of the Browns, Doyle has been in fine form through the second half of the season with both the bat and ball.

Has made nearly 300 runs for his club so far and has also been handy in the attack, recently taking a strong 5/94 against Tea Tree Gully.

JOE GATTING

(Tea Tree Gully)

The Tea Tree Gully star has been a standout for the Bulls yet again this season, performing well with the bat in the top order.

Gatting has multiple centuries and big totals so far, including a 109 against Kensington and an impressive 132 off of 244 balls against Port Adelaide.

MATTHEW HERRMANN

(Pooraka)

With nearly 300 runs and 20 wickets to his name, Herrmann has emerged as one of the top ATCA players of 2023-2024.

Usually batting in the middle order for the Bulls, Herrmann has produced a number of strong innings including a 70-run and multiple 50-run outings.

OLIVER JACKSON

(Goodwood)

One of Goodwood’s top bowlers of 2023-2024, Jackson has complemented one of Turf Cricket’s most dangerous attacks well.

The Goodwood star has taken 20 wickets for his club so far through his consistent delivery.

Will be one to watch in the upcoming finals series.

JOSH KANN

(Northern Districts)

The Queenslander has been a standout during his second season of SACA Premier Cricket with the Jets.

Often opens the batting for the Jets in white-ball cricket and can also do damage as a medium pacer in the attack.

Has a top score of 150 not out this season.

COREY KELLY

(Sturt)

Kelly has had another fantastic season for Sturt, helping the Blues dominate division two of Premier Cricket.

Has been handy with the bat but does most of his damage with the ball, taking 29 wickets at a cost of just 13.2 runs a game through consistent pace bowling.

THOMAS KELLY

(Sturt)

Has been a consistent top order batter yet again for the Blues when available.

Kelly has scored multiple tonnes in two-day cricket and has also come up big when needed in the One-Day cup, tallying nearly 400 runs total.

SAM KERBER

(Adelaide Uni)

Star captain for the Blacks, Kerber can deliver with both the bat and ball as a damaging all-rounder.

Kerber has nearly 300 runs and over 20 wickets in two-day cricket this season and was also a standout in both the T20 and one-day competitions.

ELEANOR LAROSA

(Glenelg)

Has performed exceptionally well with the bat this season and can also chip in with the ball to do damage for the attack.

Larosa has been a standout at the top of the Seahorses order, making 320 runs and counting in one-day cricket while also taking over 10 wickets.

Has represented SA and also Australia.

CONOR MCINERNEY

(Glenelg)

McInerney joined Glenelg from Woodville in one of the biggest moves of the Premier Cricket off-season and it has paid dividends for the Seahorses.

A star opening batter, McInerney has made 390 runs in two-day cricket including a 110 not out against West Torrens, a 100 against East Torrens and has also done damage in other formats.

DEAKIN MURPHY

(SACA U19s)

Has been as consistent as anyone with the ball in division two and has also made some handy totals with the bat in the lower order for the U19s.

Murphy has taken over 20 wickets in two-day matches for his side including a 7/90 against Prospect and a 6/82 against Southern District.

Has also performed well in other formats and can often provide value at the bottom of the batting order by hanging tough at the crease or making double digits.

LLOYD POPE

(Kensington)

A standout in the Big Bash League again this season, Pope has also been a dominant leg-spinner for Kensington in division one of Premier Cricket.

Has taken over 20 wickets for the Browns across all formats with his crafty delivery and will be one to watch if the Browns secure finals.

ALEX PRICE

(Sturt)

Sturt’s captain has been at her best again this season in Premier Cricket, doing major damage with the bat for the Blues.

Price has tallied 393 runs in the women’s First Grade competition so far this season, averaging 39.3 a game.

Will be Sturt’s most important player in finals.

SURAJ RAJESH

(Adelaide)

Arguably the most dominant player in division two this season, Rajesh has performed consistently as an opening batter for the Buffaloes.

Has amassed 623 runs so far at a fantastic average of 77.8 runs a game.

JAMES REUTHER

(West Torrens)

A star quick bowler out of the Yorke Peninsula, Reuther has been a dominant force for West Torrens after time with the Redbacks.

Reuther has taken over 40 wickets across two-day, one-day and Twenty20 cricket so far this season and will be one of the Eagles’ most important players in two-day finals.

CHADD SAYERS

(Grange)

With nearly 400 runs for Grange and 26 wickets so far, Sayers has been one of the ACTA’s top all-rounders in 2023-2024.

The former Australia player and Redback has been dominant for the club since joining after a run with Woodville in SACA Premier Cricket.

LIAM SCOTT

(Glenelg)

A consistent all-rounder for the Seahorses, Scott has been damaging with bat and ball in season 2023-2024.

Scott often takes to the crease in the middle of Glenelg’s order and has made nearly 300 runs with a standout innings of 109 against Port Adelaide.

Has also taken over 10 wickets, with season-best bowling figures of 6/6 against Tea Tree Gully.

ANANAYA SHARMA

(West Torrens)

One of Australia’s most exciting young talents, Sharma has impressed as an all-rounder for West Torrens since arriving from NSW.

The 19-year-old off-spinner has taken over wickets and made over 100 runs for the Eagles and will be key as her side attempts to top Sturt and Kensington in finals.

SERENAH SLADE

(Para Hills)

With over 200 runs for Para Hills as well as nearly 20 wickets, Slade has been a valuable part of the top women’s ATCA side’s run.

Often opens the batting for her team and has made totals of 30 and 40 six separate times this year.

KELVIN SMITH

(West Torrens)

Has been a star leader for West Torrens throughout the season and has stepped up when usual captain Daniel Drew is out of the line-up. Smith has made over 600 runs as an opener across all formats of first grade cricket for the Eagles including a 200 not out against East Torrens.

MICHAEL MCDONALD

(Grange)

A superstar bowler in Turf Cricket, McDonald has taken 28 wickets and counting for Grange so far in 2023-2024.

One of the competition’s most consistent players, McDonald has multiple five-wicket-hauls against Woodville South, Port District and Marion.

CAM VALENTE

(Port Adelaide)

Reigning player of the year in Premier Cricket, Valente has put together another strong campaign for the Magpies with the ball while also proving to be handy with the bat.

Has taken 27 wickets in the two-day format so far for just 15 runs a game.

ELLA WILSON

(Glenelg)

Wilson is a young quick bowler and middle-order batter who has been a standout in the Glenelg attack this season.

Has taken nearly 20 wickets for the Seahorses including a strong 4/18 performance and an impressive 5/17, both against Adelaide.

TRAVIS WORDSWORTH

(Para Hills)

The Para Hills captain has had another outstanding year for his undefeated side, dominating as an opening batter in the men’s turf cricket competition.

Wordsworth has nearly 500 runs for Para Hills including a 121-run innings against Ingle Farm.

Can also dominate with the ball, taking nearly 20 wickets so far.
