Top 40 Adelaide Footy League Division Four players of 2023 ranked

Division four of the Adelaide Footy League is packed with star local talent so we’ve ranked the competition’s top 40 players of 2023. See who made the cut.

Adelaide Footy League Goals of the Week

Division four of the Adelaide Footy League has long been one of the most star-studded competition in the Ammos and season 2023 has been no exception.

Based on this season’s form and with the help of league insiders, we’ve ranked the division’s top 40 players of 2023.

Ladder leaders Pooraka led the way with seven players listed, while Lockleys, Morphettville Park and Walkerville were also well-represented.

Here is our list from 40 to 1.

40. JOEL SMITH

(Kenilworth)

One of Kenilworth’s most improved players this season, Smith has been important on and behind the ball.

A tough and relentless player who hits the contest hard and also disposes at a high efficiency.

Has seven best player nods in 15 games.

39. DAVID HANKIN

(Morphettville Park)

Arriving from Imperials in the River Murray FL at the end of last season, Hankin has produced some impressive footy with the Roos.

A strong player who can perform through the contest or move up front to hit the scoreboard, Hankin is clean in possession and delivers well.

Has three best player nods and 13 goals in 12 games.

38. VIVIAN DAVEY

(Pooraka)

A dangerous midfielder/forward utility for the Bulls.

Davey is an exciting player who boasts clean skills by hand and foot and can either set-up teammates with consistent disposal or kick goals himself.

Has two best player nods and 17 goals in 10 games.

37. CAMERON BOSMAN

(Lockleys)

A talented defender for Lockleys, Bosman’s performances have been important for the Demons this year.

A hard working player at the back who competes well in the air and wins plenty of ground ball.

Has five best player nods as well as two goals in 13 games.

36. LIAM TOOHEY

(Morphettville Park)

Toohey has been one of Morphettville Park’s most valuable players so far this year.

A hard worker through the contest who often fights through tags to win the ball for his side and distribute cleanly under pressure.

Has five best player nods and six goals in 14 games.

35. NICK CHESSER

(Kenilworth)

One of Kenilworth’s best players this year, Chesser has been a highly influential player when available.

Chesser attacks the footy fearlessly in congestion to win possessions for his side and deal to teammates in space and can also hit the scoreboard.

Has seven goals and seven best player mentions in 10 games.

34. LUIS TIMPANO

(Pooraka)

A long-time player for Pooraka, Timpano continues to produce consistent footy for the Bulls.

Timpano is a tireless worker in the contest who wins a number of contested possessions each week and can also move up the ground to boot goals on occasion.

Has eight majors and three best player nods in 12 games.

33. MAX SMYTH

(Mitcham)

One of the division’s top forwards last season with 73 goals, Smyth has put another solid year together in 2023.

While he has not matched his production of 2022, Smyth’s ability to win the ball in the forwardline or take strong marks in front of goal makes him a tough matchup for most defenders.

Has 33 goals and two best player performances in 14 games.

32. RONALD RANKINE

Pooraka’s top goalkicker this year.

Rankine is a reliable target up front who creates separation from his defenders with smart leads and can also finish from anywhere in and around the forward 50.

Has 36 goals and three best player appearances in his 15 games.

31. LUKE BROADBENT

(Hectorville)

A dominant player through Hectorville’s midfield, Broadbent has been one of his side’s most improved players in 2023.

A hard runner who finds plenty of the ball in the contest and delivers to teammates efficiently under pressure.

Broadbent has seven best player mentions and 11 goals in 13 games.

30. NICK HANKIN

(Morphettville Park)

One of Morphettville Park’s top performers throughout the past three years, Hankin has produced a promising 2023.

Adept on the ball and capable of winning important possessions for his side, Hankin is a reliable distributor and one of the Roos’ hardest workers.

Has eight best player performances and two goals in 11 games.

29. ANTHONY MARCHIORO

(CBC OC)

An integral part of CBC OC’s top two push this season, Marchioro has produced a strong year across the forwardline and through the Contest.

A hardworking player who attacks the footy relentlessly, takes multiple strong grabs a game and creates for his teammates or boots majors for himself.

Has 31 goals and seven best player nods in 15 games.

28. JORDAN WILSON-KING

(Kenilworth)

Kenilworth’s best player this season, Wilson-King has produced some strong footy in the middle.

The former North Adelaide player racks up disposals and clearances as well as anyone and can also hit the scoreboard at a high rate.

Has eight best player nods and 18 goals in 14 games.

27. JAMIE WEST

(Plympton)

A star for Plympton last season, West has had another standout year for the Bulldogs.

Skilled through the middle and adept at slotting in up front and hitting the scoreboard, West can win his own ball in the contest and create with efficient distribution.

Has six best player nods and 2o goals through his 15 games so far.

26. DYLAN MATTEUCCI

(Mitcham)

Mitcham’s standout player this season, Matteuci has been a star at the back for the Hawks.

A versatile player who can stand a range of forwards, Matteuci often wins a number of contests in the air and is an excellent distributor.

Can also move up front to hit the scoreboard with five goals and four best player performances in 15 games.

25. JAK GOUDMAN-GLASSON

(Hectorville)

One of the competition’s most consistent and exciting target forwards, Goudman-Glasson has been one of the Hounds’ best again this year.

A creative and athletic player, Goudman-Glasson often takes breathtaking grabs and can boot goals from anywhere around the forward 50.

Has 33 majors and four best player performances in his 15 games.

24. DALE LASLETT

(Portland)

Laslett has been valuable for Portland again this year despite his club’s struggles.

A star ball magnet who can take over in the contest, Laslett racks up contested possessions and clearances for his side and also moves up the ground to hit the scoreboard consistently.

Has eight best player nods and 10 goals in 14 games.

23. MATT RAYMOND

(CBC OC)

A hardworking midfielder who can dominate the contest with his relentless attack on the ball.

Raymond’s work around the ground has been as important as ever for CBC OC and he remains one of the best users in the division.

Has five best player nods and nine goals in 12 games.

22. SAM WALKER

(Morphettville Park)

A highly skilled defender, Walker has been one of the Roos’ best in 2023.

Walker has not been as consistent by foot as he was through 2022 but remains reliable with ball in hand and is a great intercept mark across the backline.

Has eight best player nods through 13 games.

21. LOGAN MULADY

(Pooraka)

A standout ruck in the div four competition, Mulady has remained an important player for the Bulls.

The former West Adelaide U18s player covers ground well for a big man, can take strong marks and also have an impact up front by hitting the scoreboard.

Has two best player performances and 12 goals in his 15 games.

20. NATHAN BATLEY

(Lockleys)

The former West Adelaide League player has been a key part of his side’s success yet again in 2023.

An excellent user of the footy who can rack up possessions in the contest and provide great run and carry, Batley has been as hard as ever for opponents to stop.

Has six best player nods and three goals in 13 games.

19. ADAM PROUD

(Walkerville)

A dominant key forward for Walkerville last season, Proud has put together another strong year for the Cats.

Quick off the mark and with a strong pair of hands, Proud’s ability to dominate in the air and boot goals from anywhere has been key to his side’s success.

Has 34 goals and two best player nods in 10 games.

18. SAM RAYMOND

(CBC OC)

A star mid who can play a number of roles for CBC OC, Raymond has been a key to his club’s success so far this season.

Brother of Matt Raymond, Sam is a workhorse for his side who attacks the contest relentlessly and wins a number of important possessions for the Dolphins.

Has six best player performances and five goals in 15 games.

17. JAMES BOSTON

(Walkerville)

Just edging out star forward teammate Adam Proud, Boston has been a standout for Walkerville this season.

Boasting consistent aerial and ground ball ability, Boston is always a threat up front with the ability to slot set shots home or kick skilful goals from open play.

Has 46 goals to lead the division so far as well as five best player nods in 14 games.

16. DANIEL FAIRBROTHER

(Hectorville)

A key player for Hectorville during its premiership season last year, Fairbrother has been integral again in 2023.

The former Norwood SANFL League player has been an important through the middle after the Hounds lost star player Jake Mazzone, winning plenty of the footy and also hitting the scoreboard.

Has 13 best player mentions and seven majors in 15 games.

15. BRADY ZWAR

(Walkerville)

A dominant ruck, Zwar has been one of the best big men in the division four competition so far this season.

Often dominates games in the air, boasts brilliant tap-work and distributes well off of both sides.

Has nine best player mentions and seven goals in 14 games.

14. MICHAEL BAKER

(Pooraka)

A star in the middle who can also move into the forwardline and impact the scoreboard.

Baker has been as important as ever for the Bulls, hitting the contest hard and distributing at a high efficiency.

Has 26 goals and five best player nods in 15 games, with his best performance an eight-goal day from the middle against Morphettville Park.

13. BRODY TREMBATH

Joining Morphettville Park from Brighton, Trembath has been a star for the Roos so far this season.

Trembath can take over a game up front, dominating on the lead with a safe set of hands and either creating for teammates or booting goals himself.

Has seven best player mentions and 31 goals in 11 games.

12. CURTLY HAMPTON

(Plympton)

A former GWS and Adelaide Crows gun, Hampton has been a weapon since joining Plympton in the pre-season.

A running machine on the ball who wins plenty of the contested footy and can also hit the scoreboard.

Hampton has seven best player nods and 16 goals through his 11 games so far and will be important during the run home for the Bulldogs.

11. JAKE NEADE

The former Port Adelaide midfielder/forward utility has been a star for Portland this year.

Neade is one of the most skilful and exciting players to watch in division four on his day, producing clean work at ground level and distributing to teammates effectively.

Also has the ability to kick difficult goals, tallying 12 majors and seven best player nods in 15 games.

10. BRETT SIMPSON

(CBC OC)

A star leader for CBC OC, Simpson has been a weapon for his side as it looks to contend for a premiership in 2023.

Simpson is an agile and strong player up front who has no issue winning the footy in the air or at ground level to set-up teammates or boot goals himself.

Has 45 goals through 15 games.

9. LONNIE HAMPTON

(Plympton)

One of Plympton’s most skilled players, Hampton has been a star for the Bulldogs yet again this year.

A clean player off of the deck who moves smoothly across the ground and hits teammates with precision by either foot or hand.

Has seven best player nods and five goals in 14 games.

8. BEN HAREN

(Lockleys)

Lockleys’ focal point across the forwardline, Haren remains one of the most damaging players in the competition.

A tall and imposing presence at the front, Haren moves around the ground exceptionally well, can impact the game in the air and finishes goals from anywhere in and around the 50.

Has 40 goals in 10 games as well as three best player nods.

7. ALEX BARNS

The most talented big man in division four, Barns has remained as a star player up front and in the ruck for Morphettville Park.

The North Adelaide premiership player feeds midfielders with his elite tap-work and can also distribute seamlessly by boot.

Also plays as a strong key forward who can take big grabs, booting 19 goals in 11 games to go with six best player nods.

6. AARON RAINEY

(Lockleys)

The best defender in division four, Rainey has been integral to Lockleys’ strong season so far.

A key part of the Demons line-up, Rainey can lock down any forward in the competition, battling well in the air and at ground level and picking off a number of attacks to start rebounds for his side.

Has nine best player appearances and a goal in 14 games.

5. FRANK TIMPANO

(Pooraka)

The reigning division four medallist, Timpano has put together another standout season for Pooraka.

The Bulls onballer has no issue doing the tough inside work for his side, winning contested footy and dealing to teammates efficiently.

Has nine best player nods and six goals in 12 appearances.

4. TERRY MILERA

(Portland)

A former St Kilda player, Portland’s Milera remains one of the most skilled players in division four.

Milera is a versatile and athletic player who is adept off of either foot and can play a number of roles around the ground, doing significant damage up front or through the middle, often taking big marks and booting goals.

Has 24 goals in 13 games and has been a major standout despite Portland’s struggles this season.

3. BOWEN HOSKING

(Lockleys)

Dominant in the contest and a dangerous asset up front for Lockleys, Hosking has been at his best this season.

A skilled player on the ball who has a big tank, Hosking makes good decisions under pressure and can cut up opposition with damaging ball use.

Has 13 best player nods and 13 goals through 15 games so far.

2. SEAN KUERSCHNER

(Walkerville)

The former league medallist and club champion has been at his best for Walkerville this season as the club continues a push for another finals appearance.

Kuerschner – who captains the Cats – is a strong onballer who has been a bull in the contest, dominating a number of sides on the ball with his ability to win the footy in congestion and deliver to teammates with accuracy.

Has also been a consistent threat on the scoreboard, booting 17 goals in 15 games to go along with his seven best player appearances so far this year.

1. MATT RANKINE

One of the most skilled players in the competition, Rankine has had a standout year through the middle and up front for the Bulls.

The older brother of star Adelaide Crow Izak Rankine, Matt is as clean as anyone at ground level, boasts efficient distribution off of either foot, and can also fly to take big grabs.

Rankine can also create for teammates in front of goal or finish for himself, booting 23 majors to go with eight best player nods in 14 games.
