Local SA women’s footy season is fast-approaching and a number of clubs across SA have added big names to their lists.
From former SANFLW players to local stars, we’ve ranked the top eight pick-ups across the women’s game so far.
Here is our list from number eight to one.
8. CHRISTINA LENA
(Kenilworth to Westminster OS)
A part of Kenilworth’s leadership group in division three of the Adelaide Footy League last season, Lena should be a key part of Westminster Old Scholars’ midfield during the club’s debut women’s season.
A tireless and courageous player, Lena tallied six best player nods and three goals in her 12 appearances for the Lions last season.
7. GEORGIA TARCA
(North Gambier)
A former Morphettville Park, Athelstone, Kybybolite and South Gambier player, Tarca has committed to North Gambier for Western Border League season 2023 after a brief hiatus from footy.
Tarca is an experienced asset who plays in a number of roles around the ground.
6. EMMA MACDONALD
(SMOSH West Lakes to Westminster OS)
Having previously represented Penola and South Gambier in the South East, MacDonald has signed for Westminster OS after a premiership season with SMOSH West Lakes’ division one and division one reserves sides.
MacDonald has been a dominant halfback throughout her career and has also made a name for herself in the midfield, attacking the ball hard and bursting from congestion.
She was named best on ground in the division one reserves grand final.
5. MAYA JAKUBISZYN
(Pinktails to Happy Valley)
A versatile player who shows strength in the contest and can slot goals, Jakubiszyn has signed for Happy Valley in the Adelaide Footy League after spending a season with the Pinktails in the Central Australian Football League.
She has also played at South Adelaide in the SANFLW development league and will look to continue with the club while also representing the Vikings.
4. CHLOE COLGRAVE
(Old Ignatians to Pembroke OS)
Coming off of a best and fairest season for Old Ignatians in division one of the Adelaide Footy League last season, Colgrave has committed to Pembroke Old Scholars for season 2023.
Colgrave has the ability to dominate off of halfback and was named among Iggies’ best in eight of her 11 appearances in 2022.
3. BRIANNA BURT
(Mount Barker to Jervois)
Burt will join the Bluds’ footy program after a successful season with Mount Barker during which she also represented Central District in the SANFLW development league.
A tall forward who has the ability to bag multiple goals a game, Burt should have a positive impact at her new club.
2. AIRLIE SCHIRMER
(Glenelg to Happy Valley)
A major signing for the club which finished second in division one last season, Schirmer has committed to Happy Valley after a strong SANFLW career with Glenelg.
The 22-year-old medium defender was a key part of Glenelg’s 2021 SANFLW premiership squad and her ability to move up the ground and impact either the midfield or the scoreboard will prove invaluable for the Vikings.
1. MEL ELSEGOOD
(West Adelaide to Westminster OS)
The first major signing for Westminster Old Scholars’ debut women’s season in the Adelaide Footy League, Elsegood brings a wealth of experience.
A superstar across the forwardline, Elsegood has played the last five seasons with West Adelaide’s SANFLW side, booting 52 goals in 41 league games.
Her experience and presence up front should bring success to the Dragons.
