The top footy grounds across South Australia the readers believe we missed
Following our list appreciating the best 10 footy grounds in South Australia, fans from around the state mentioned some omissions. We’ve put together a list of the ones we missed.
Local Sport
Don't miss out on the headlines from Local Sport. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Messenger sport reporters Daniela Abbracciavento and Gordon Armstrong hand-picked 10 of SA’s best local, metro footy grounds.
Their choices certainly caused a lot of debate among punter. Some backed their choices, while others pointed out what they believed to be glaring omissions.
In response, the pair has checked out a few grounds readers believed they missed.
NORWOOD OVAL
Our credibility was put to the sword early as the home of the Redlegs was not on the original list.
Night games, in particular, create atmosphere and a bit of sparring with the locals on Cooper’s Hill also forms part of a trip to The Parade.
Norwood was left off the first list as sometimes it is a bit hard to see the action from the grand stand and the oval doesn’t always hold up when it rains.
But Norwood does have a great vibe and it’s close to the city.
GLENELG OVAL
The upgrade to the football club has helped the Bay add plenty of atmosphere to a day at the footy.
Due to strong locals support, opposition fans are always heavily out numbered and are forced to sing along to the Tigerland theme song when the hosts win.
Generally Glenelg Oval is not a hostile place to be, particularly on the hill with the Snout’s Louts, who are too bust socialising and lining up for a beer.
WALKERVILLE OVAL
The oval is home to Adelaide Footy league division three side the Walkerville Cats and it’s another site very close to the CBD.
It is a fantastic setting with plenty of activities for the kids during footy and cricket seasons.
Parking is a bit tricky but the ground usually holds up pretty well, no matter the conditions.
It’s also a great venue for overlooking other sporting activities.
PERTARINGA OVAL
There was a fair bit of support for Tea Tree Gully’s home ground — not necessarily for the oval itself — but for the atmosphere created when the Wolves play footy there.
The club has one of the strongest junior programs in the state and it is often pumping players’ with families and friends on weekends.
OLD NOARLUNGA OVAL
No Southern Football League grounds were included in the original list but our readers firmly believed Old Noarlunga Oval deserved a spot.
The home of the Shoes has one of the best atmospheres in metro SA, especially on a warm spring day in September as Noarlunga usually hosts a full day of finals across various grades.
Cars line the oval for most of the weekend watching games from under-14s to the senior A grade.
