- Southern Football League season preview
Local footy starts this weekend and there are plenty of matches to get out to watch in the suburbs or the country.
We’ve picked out five of the best games to watch this Saturday.
ADELAIDE FOOTY LEAGUE
ROSTREVOR OC v PRINCE ALFRED OC
Campbelltown Memorial Oval, Saturday @ 4.20pm
Rostrevor OC will christen its new $10 million home at Campbelltown Memorial Oval with a blockbuster clash against Prince Alfred OC.
ROC, which would have seethed over summer after last year’s grand final loss, will be hoping to begin new player/coach Will O’Malley’s reign with victory.
SALISBURY NORTH v BROADVIEW
Salisbury North Oval, Saturday @ 2:15pm
All eyes out north will be on the Hawks this Saturday as they make their return to division two.
Salisbury North has not played since it was booted from the league in June, but allowed to re-enter, and welcome 2018 semi-finalists Broadview in round one.
PORTLAND v FLINDERS PARK
Port Reserve, Saturday @ 2.15pm
Former Port Adelaide and North Melbourne goalsneak Lindsay Thomas will make his debut for Portland when the Thunder host Flinders Park.
How many will the divisive Thomas kick? Head to Port Reserve to find out.
MID SOUTH EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
GLENCOE v NANGWARRY
Glencoe Oval, Saturday @ 2:10pm
One of country footy’s hard luck stories, south-east club Nangwarry will take to the field for the first time since their clubrooms burnt down in January.
The Saints will take on the Murphies at Glencoe looking to break a 66-match losing streak.
SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
REYNELLA v NOARLUNGA
Reynella Oval, Saturday @ 2.30pm
One side has strengthened and the other has copped some key outs, but SFL fans will get an early indication of where these two sides will sit in 2019 at Reynella Oval.
Ex-SANFL players Terry Milera and Josh Thewlis will make their debuts for the Shoes.
Reynella meanwhile is coming off last season’s 100-point grand final loss to Flagstaff Hill.
