Payneham Norwood Union’s powerful division one campaign has been recognised with the strongest showing of any club in the Adelaide Footy League’s team of the year.
The minor premier Falcons received five selections, including coach Garry McIntosh, in a side filled with matchwinners, big-game performers and plenty of experience.
The 2019 line-up of the top flight’s best was revealed at the competition’s awards ceremony on Monday night and was selected with input from division one coaches, among others.
Falcons forwards Alex Forster and Liam Davis unsurprisingly dominate the attack after finishing first and second in the division one goal kicking tally.
They are joined by teammates Cameron Milne – in the ruck – and onballer Brett Ancell.
McIntosh gets the nod as coach after leading PNU to a 14-4 record and a preliminary final appearance this Saturday.
The top three sides – PNU, Prince Alfred Old Collegians and Rostrevor Old Collegians – provided half of the 22-named players, while each side had at least one player selected.
Old Reds brothers Jake and Craig Pitt won deserved selection up forward and on the bench respectively, while Will Dalwood and Adam Perryman hold up the half-back line for PAOC.
State and Port District captain Trent Heffernan skippers the side with Dalwood as his deputy.
Keith Sims OAM Medallist Tim Baccanello takes up a spot on the wing and is joined by fellow ROC players Will Mead (back pocket) and Luke Manuel (half-back).
Brighton experienced a solid debut campaign in the top flight and star midfielders Jay Boyle and Jacob Carger are the Bombers’ two selections.
