A SANFL 200-gamer and dual premiership player has joined a local SA footy club ahead of the 2025 season.

Hard-nosed Sturt defender Guy Page has joined division four Adelaide Footy League club Plympton after retiring from League level.

Page, who tallied 207 games for the Double Blues and played an important part in the club’s 2016 and 2017 premiership wins, was one of the hottest commodities coming out of the SANFL this year.

The 31-year-old engineer, who played his junior footy at Edwardstown, said Plympton presented the most flexibility for him and his family.

“It was a difficult process to go through,” Page said.

“Leaving Sturt was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make but my family had sacrificed a lot for me and I probably would have been a bit selfish if I tried to go around again for another season.

“My wife and I are expecting a baby in February and with myself also balancing work commitments we wanted to go to an environment where we could just slot in.

“I had a few meetings with Plympton and Edwardstown, two enticing clubs, but one of my best mates Kieren Nelson is at the Bulldogs and I felt it would be a bit easier for me to get comfortable.”

Plympton fell short of promotion to division three after claiming the minor premiership last season, crashing out in the preliminary final against Westminster OS.

Page said he was excited by the club’s ambition to move up the AdFL divisions and looked forward to working with new coach Simon Quinn.

“I can’t wait,” he said.

“I’ve been very impressed with their desire to get better and move up the divisions and the playing group is eager to learn.

“They play a brand of footy that suits higher divisions so there is an exciting opportunity to be part of success.

“I’m going to bring strong leadership and knowledge of the game both on and off the field and hopefully I can have a big impact for the club.

“I’m looking forward to working with Quinny on the coaching side – hopefully he can teach me some things and I can teach him a few things as well.”

While he has two flags to his name, Page said he was as hungry as ever to add another premiership medal to his mantle.

He believed he could taste the ultimate success again at Plympton.

“I’d be silly if I started any footy year without wanting to win a premiership.

“It’s always my goal and everyone else’s goal.

“We want to make the grand final and earn promotion firstly, but the ultimate goal for everyone is adding a trophy at the end of the year.”
