WHEN it comes to men’s state league tennis, Trinity Gardens player Li Tu knows only of reaching grand finals.
Tu, 19, has won “five or four” summer premierships, including one last season, since making his pennant debut for the club.
“We’ve never fallen short of a grand final since I’ve been there,” Tu says.
“We always have players who are around the top of the league and all the guys really care about each other and how the team goes.”
The new season, which will feature eight men’s and six women’s teams, starts on Saturday, October 10.
Tu, Trinity’s top singles player, expects another successful campaign for the club.
“I have a lot of confidence going into every season that we play.
“We have a pretty good shot of making the grand final again.”
Golden Grove, featuring Brad Mousley who is ranked 30th in Australia, and last season’s runner-up Seaside loom as Trinity’s biggest challengers.
West Lakes is chasing back-to-back titles in the women’s competition after beating Prospect in last season’s grand final.
Kingswood is among the younger sides but Nicole Kraemer says her teammates can match it with more experienced opponents.
“Our team is not expected to be that great but when we’re all there, we’re very competitive and have got good depth,” Kraemer, 17, says.
“We always compete hard and support each other.”
The seasons comprises 15 rounds before a grand final on March 12.
