SOUTH ADELAIDE 3

ADELAIDE UNITED YOUTH 1

South Adelaide coach Ben Dale praised his Premier League side for being disciplined and resilient after its first victory for 2019.

Dale’s team entered the clash against Adelaide United youth winless but the Panthers prevailed 3-1 at O’Sullivans Beach on Thursday night.

“We knew what we had to do,” Dale said.

“They (Adelaide United youth) have some of the best young players in the state but we were able to nullify their strengths and stayed disciplined with our shape and structure defensively.

“We stayed committed and we worked hard and smart.

“We took our chances which we hadn’t been doing in previous weeks.

“This will hopefully give us some great confidence for the rest of the year.”

Harley Gepp put the Panthers 1-0 in front in the 35th minute.

Gepp found himself in the right spot at the right time and finished off with a nice volley into the back of the net.

The young Reds equalised in the 66th minute but South skipper Sam Carmichael volleyed the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1 in the 73rd minute.

South’s Japanese recruit Masahiro Haruoka then got in behind the opposition defenders and finished off nicely in the 92nd minute to make it 3-1.

METROSTARS 4

WEST ADELAIDE 1

MetroStars coach Robbie Saraceno was impressed with the performance of Dylan Smith after a 4-1 victory over West Adelaide at TK Shutter Reserve on Saturday.

Smith scored two goals and was involved in another as his side moved to fourth on the ladder after the win.

Saraceno was happy with his team’s performance and paid credit to West Adelaide, suggesting they should be higher on the table.

“The result was pleasing, West Adelaide is definitely better than what their position on the ladder suggests and the scoreline flattered us in the end,” Saraceno said.

“Dylan was really good yesterday with his two goals. He has been impressive the last few weeks.”

MetroStars controlled the start of the game and scored in the 15th minute when Smith lobbed the keeper after the ball came to him from a defensive error by West.

Hellas equalised in the 41st minute before Smith scored his second goal from the edge of the penalty box after the break.

It was then 3-1 as Smith got onto the left-hand side and squared the ball up to Christian Esposito, who slotted it into the net with what Saraceno described as a “clinical finish”.

An own goal by West made it 4-1.

ADELAIDE BLUE EAGLES 1

RAIDERS 0

Adelaide Blue Eagles coach Vojo Gluscevic was ecstatic after his team went to top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Raiders at Marden Sports Complex on Saturday.

Hamish McCabe netted the winner in the 51st minute.

“That was our best performance of the year so far,” Gluscevic said.

“Raiders had been in good form and are a very good team.

“Defensively we were fantastic and we kept attacking, which was really good.

“I was really impressed with our discipline in defence and I couldn’t fault our positioning as well

“To be on the top of the table in the Premier League is very pleasing.”

PARA HILLS 2

ADELAIDE OLYMPIC 2

Para Hills coach Barney Smith praised his group’s “never-give-up attitude” as it came from behind to salvage a 2-2 result with Adelaide Olympic at the Parks on Saturday.

The Knights scored twice in the final 10 minutes to snare a draw and sit ninth on the table following the result.

Smith was pleased with his team’s resilience to come from 2-0 down and praised its effort and character to fight back.

“When we were down 2-0, I knew we still had a goal in us and to get that second goal and equalise was great,” Smith said.

“I couldn’t fault the boys and was so proud of their never give up attitude.

“To come back and take a draw away from home shows the character of our group.

“I am very proud of them and look forward to a big game against South Adelaide.”

After a tight first half, the game opened up after the break as Olympic went up 2-0.

But the momentum then shifted when an Andrew Butler cross caught Olympic keeper Nikolas Harpas unaware and landed in the back of the net in the 81st minute.

The Knights then equalised seven minutes later through Mohammad Sumaoro.
