SA’s Jesse Moore wins national all-around gymnastics title

JESSE Moore feared the worst when disaster struck at the national gymnastics championships but bounced back to win gold.

JESSE Moore feared the worst when disaster struck during this month’s national gymnastics championships in Melbourne.

“I usually do pretty well on the horizontal bars but I fell off twice,” Jesse, 12, says.

But a steely resolve, gleaned from a gruelling 27-hour-a-week training schedule, helped the Hawthorn boy recover to claim gold in the under-12 all-around competition.

“I did well on the parallel bars and it was pretty exciting to win.

“I was confident before but shocked to win it.”

Jesse competed on six apparatuses over two days, narrowly winning the title by 0.065 points.

He also finished second in the teams event alongside his GymJets squad mates Calvin Currie, of Seaford Meadows, Charlie Kay, of Camden Park, and Lachlan Davis, of Linden Park.

Jesse attends Ascot Park Primary where he is part of the school’s specialised gymnastics program.

“I love how gymnastics is challenging, competitive and fun,” the Year 7 student says.

“I want to go to the Commonwealth Games and Olympics one day and win a medal for Australia.”
