SANFLW Team of the Year 2020: North Adelaide players lead side with seven nominations

The 2020 Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year has been announced — one club dominates the side with seven players named. Check out who made the cut from your club.

The 2020 SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League campaign has been a season like no other – a whirlwind for most involved.

It began back in February only to be halted after four games while the state grappled with the coronavirus pandemic.

Then it was given the green light to restart late in June and the remaining five minor rounds plus finals were played.

Ahead of the grand final between North Adelaide and South Adelaide, the 2020 Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year has been released.

The Roosters dominated the selection honours with seven players included in the team.

North defenders Kristi Harvey and Amber Ward made the cut, along with midfielders Katelyn Pope and Crows AFLW listed player Anne Hatchard.

Roosters youngster Hannah Ewings was named at half-forward while teammate Cristie Castle earns a spot in full-forward, while Ashleigh Woodland gets the nod as one of the ruck rovers.

Woodland was also named vice-captain.

North mentor Krissie Steen was named coach of the year.

Steen returned to the SANFLW ranks after a year being an assistant with GWS’ AFLW team and she led the Roosters to an undefeated season with grand final appearance.

Grand finalist South Adelaide had four players included in the team of 22.

Forwards Jess Kirk and Teah Charlton and midfielder Tahlia Meyer were chosen to start, while rising star Indy Tahau was named on the interchange.

Three stars from West Adelaide earned a berth in the Team of the Year, with Rachelle Martin being named skipper.

Norwood also had three players make the team, while two of Central District’s stars were selected.

Glenelg, Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens all had one player included.

The Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year was selected by SANFL general manager of football Matt Duldig, SANFL female talent manager Robbie Neill, SANFL media producer Zac Milbank and Messenger sports reporter Daniela Abbracciavento.
