Prince Alfred remains undefeated in the Messenger Bowl T20 cricket competition, while Sacred Heart’s game against St Michael’s is decided by the second-to-last ball.

Check out our round three match wraps here:

PRINCE ALFRED 2/92 ADELAIDE HIGH 9/91

Prince Alfred is quickly becoming this season’s pacesetter, having beaten the reigning premier in round two, before last year’s grand finalists in the latest round.

PAC was sent into the field after losing the toss and restricted Adelaide High to 9/91 at home on Friday.

In reply, the hosts made 2/92.

Will Charlton (4/19) was best with the ball for PAC, while skipper Harry Matthias top scored with 49 off 21 balls.

Matthew Adams added a handy 30 with the bat.

PAC cricket director Sam Knight said his side played a “complete game of cricket”.

“While we lost the toss, it was fortunate at this stage in the tournament to have the opportunity to chase a total after batting first in the first two matches,” Knight said.

“Our bowling and fielding throughout was excellent.

“Will Charlton again executing his skills at the death with his second four-wicket haul.

“With the bat, Our captain Harry Matthias made a statement smashing 49 from just 21 balls and Matt Adams supported well chasing the total down with 61 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand.”

Rudransh Sharma (27) and captain Tejas Gill (15) were best with the bat for the visitors but had little support.

Jack Matchett (1/29) and Thomas Brown (1/9) were Adelaide High’s wicket takers.

ST MICHAEL’S 5/101 SACRED HEART 6/102

Sacred Heart prevailed in a nailbiter against St Michael’s away on Friday.

It was the second time this season that a super over had been played, and followed last week’s clash between Scotch and Westminster, which also ended in a draw after both sides played their 20 overs.

Matt Barnes was Hearts’ to run scorer with 37 not out, while Tim Stewart took two wickets.

Sacred Heart cricket co-ordinator Nicholas Taylor said the match had an “exciting finish”.

“Sacred Heart needed seven runs from the final three balls of the match,” Taylor said.

“Matt Barnes hit a huge six to the long boundary, to bring us within one run from two balls remaining.

“The pair made a single on the next ball to win the match.”

Will Foley topscored for St michael’s with 39, while Archie Nielsen (2/18) was the pick of the bowlers.

St Michael’s co-curricular coordinator Jordan Young said his side played well but some solid batting from Hearts late in the match proved the difference.

“A close game with both sides bowling well to restrict scoring heavily,” Young said.

Some late hitting by Sacred Heart College in the last couple of overs was the difference in getting them over the line.”

PEMBROKE 7/103 WESTMINSTER 7/81

Pembroke returned to the winners’ list with a strong victory over Westminster at home on Friday.

The hosts overcame an early hiccup to post 7/103 before restricting Westminster to 7/81.

Debutant Archer Bawden starred with the bat (31 from 24 balls)/

Bawden’s 34-run partnership with Year 10 Theo Harper helped Pembroke put a competitive score on the board.

Pembroke captain Josh Sims run-out with the first ball in Westminsters’ innings set the tone for the hosts which, according to coach Tom Evans, “made the most of each opportunity” with the ball.

Charlie Bear (37) was Pembroke’s top scorer, while eg-spinner Jack Willis was the pick of the bowlers, claiming taking 2/14.

Evans was proud of his side’s effort after a loss to Prince Alfred the following round.

“This was a gutsy win after a shaky start and gives the boys good confidence in our ability to win from any situation,” Evans said.

“It was great to see some new faces step up with valuable contributions.

“Moving forward we need to make sure we make the most of our first six overs in the batting powerplay.”

ST PETER’S 7/116 ROSTREVOR 6/93

Rostrevor suffered a loss to St Peter’s away last Friday.

The hosts elected to bat after winning the toss and posted 7/116.

In reply, Rostrevor could only muster 6/93.

Year 10 student Luke Homan impressed with the ball, snaring 3/17, while Mackenzie Best (1/17) and Sam Rahaley (1/15) both “bowled economically” according to coach Bill Trewartha.

Tom Morgan (21) was best with the bat and he was given some support from Jake Slivak (18).

Trewartha said the loss was disappointing but was confident his side could bounce back this week.

“(It was) a disappointing loss against an opponent who we have had some great battles with over the years,” Trewartha said.

“Our bowling performance was generally very good with some tidy spells, lead Luke Homan who continues to impress in this format of the game.

“In reply, we lost an early wicket and were bogged down by some excellent, tight bowling from the opposition.

“Jake Slivak and Tom Morgan battled hard, however the Saints’ total was just too much for our batsmen to overcome.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to produce the necessary partnerships required, or rotate the strike often enough to cause any problems for the opposition.

“(But) if we win our last two games, we can still qualify for the grand final.”
