MORPHETTVILLE Park is looking for a new women’s football coach – two months after winning a third consecutive premiership.
Rick Watts steered the Roos to a 40-point win over West Adelaide in the SA Women’s Football League grand final at Thebarton Oval in September.
Watts, who took on the senior role at the start of last season, has since stepped down for family reasons.
Morphettville Park president Georgia Bevan said the club wanted a passionate coach and hoped to appoint one before Christmas.
“We’ve got a lot of culture and skillsets established already,” said Bevan, also a Roos player.
“All we need is a person who’s looking to aspire to get involved in women’s football ... and want to develop their coaching style a bit more.
“We’re looking for a good person, someone who can easily relate to the girls and has modern-day football knowledge that the girls can learn from.
“People skills are really important too ... women like that personal touch.”
Nine Morphettville Park players, including Bevan, will line up for Adelaide in the AFL national women’s league next season.
She believed playing in the new national competition, running in February and March, would help her Roos teammates improve.
“The intensity rises when you go from an amateur footballer to an elite footballer,” she said.
“Those girls will develop a lot more and hopefully be able to pass knowledge onto the girls around them.”
The Roos are also looking for coaches their under-18s and under-15s but do not want senior players taking the reins as has been the case in recent seasons.
“We still want them (senior players) to roll through and come out to mentor the girls but we just want someone, a parent ideally, to help out coaching them,” Bevan said.
