One of SA netball’s fastest rising stars has committed to her local club as she aims for more Premier League success and a Suncorp Super Netball contract.

Netball SA Premier League club Matrics has locked down superstar centre Tyler Orr for season 2023 after taking out the 2022 premiership.

Orr produced a strong season after returning from injury, leading from the middle for Matrics while also winning the Australian Championships with the Southern Force and continuing on as a training partner with the Thunderbirds.

Her signing coincides with further commitment from star wing attack Georgia Dent and marks a major move for the club.

“Towards the end of the season I did weigh up my options but my heart is here at Matrics,” Orr said.

“I just love the family culture at the club and I’m friends with so many people here. I was also able to really develop my netball at the club last season too so I’m hoping to continue that next year.”

Orr – who was awarded a Sport Australia Hall of Fame mentor scholarship at the end of last year – had her first and only taste of Super Netball with Collingwood in 2020.

The 22-year-old champion said she hoped her time at Matrics would allow her to continue to find similar opportunities.

“Last season was a bit challenging because I was juggling Matrics with Thunderbirds stuff and other programs as well but the club has been so good with accommodating that and a lot of teammates have stepped up to fill roles,” Orr said.

“I want to continue to not only succeed and win more with Matrics but to also progress at the Thunderbirds and push for another SSN contract after getting that sniff with Collingwood.”

Matrics was dominant through season 2022, ultimately beating Contax to win its third premiership in four years.

While the club has experienced personnel changes throughout the off-season, Orr believed the return of Dent and the attitude of the club would see it return to the top again.

“Having Georgia back is huge and we’ve got a few other Southern Force players returning as well which will be big next year.

“As a group there is so much potential – it’s a really young and exciting list and it’s quite refreshing to have some new faces as well.

“We’re not worried about any outside noise or what other clubs are doing, we want to focus on us and what we can get done and I think there’s a lot of talent here which can help us contend again in 2023.”
