LES Pogliacomi rode the highs and lows of goalkeeping to help Campbelltown City to its second top-flight title on Friday night.
The veteran keeper, whose four penalty shootout saves during the finals had taken his side to the SA Premier League grand final, uncharacteristically let Kym Harris' 25m free kick squirm under his body to give Blue Eagles a sixth minute lead.
However, the National Soccer League premiership player was a rock from then on, capping his performance with a stunning stop to deny Chris Annicchiarico deep into stoppage time.
"After the start we had and the mistake I made, (winning) is a feeling of relief," Pogliacomi said after the match.
"There was no point mulling over it with our heads down - you can't prevent what's happened.
"You've just got to stay positive and have the belief in your teammates."
With the 2-1 win, Campbelltown earned a National Premier League semi-final against Tasmanian champion South Hobart next month.
Pogliacomi, who will retire at the end of the campaign, said the side was primed for more success.
"It's just seemed like it was destiny this year for it to happen," he said.
Man-of-the-match Oliver Totani was a standout for the Red Devils, setting up Michael Matricciani's equaliser and scoring the winner from the penalty spot.
The talented midfielder said the flag win was "surreal".
"The club's been waiting for this night for a long time," he said.
Totani said the side had been galvanised by winning three straight finals games to make the decider.
"I think that self-belief has come through tonight," he said.
