As a youngster fresh out of junior ranks Aaron Peterson was in awe of the more senior Port Noarlunga Football Club teammates.

Now the 34-year-old is one of those seniors who stands top of the tree as Port’s club record holder with 262 A grade games – eclipsing club legend Paul Vaughan’s 261.

The popular Cocklediver says time has gone quickly.

“All of a sudden I have gone from a player who was lucky enough to win the under-16 Clem Hurst Medal in 2002 to someone who has been playing senior footy for so long,’’ Peterson says.

“So many of the guys I have looked up to over the time such as Luke “Chucka” Berry and Jason Davidson to a whole lot of others has been fantastic.

“One of my highlights has been to play one game with my older brothers Matthew and Daniel – that was so special.

“But I guess to play that many games and to be a one-club player was big for me.’’

Although there have been many highlights and good times the one part of his footy portfolio missing is an A grade premiership.

“I have played in six or seven prelims and a couple of others in juniors but have never made it to the big game,’’ Peterson says.

“I would love to do that very soon.

“As far as next season goes we will see.

“If my body holds up and the club is OK I would like to go again.

“Ian Brown, who is a great mate, just had his 250th so I might have to keep in front of him.’’

Peterson says the off-field support is terrific with identities including Mick Fitzgerald, Bernie Veide and Gary Davenport organising past players’ days.

He says he finds it hard to nominate his toughest opponent as there have been a lot of “good and scary ones’’.

Team wise he respects Morphett Vale the most.

“That run of flags they had (2004-2007) had some great players,” Peterson says.

“And nearly all of them were homegrown talent which I admire.’’

Roughead on 'sweet' farewell
