An Australian-born, US-based lacrosse coach has returned to Adelaide after her job was put on hold because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Jen Adams, who was originally from Brighton but had been based in the US since 1998, was lucky enough to beat a Federal Government ban on arrivals into the country by less than 12 hours.
The former Australian player is now self-isolating at her sister’s home in Brighton, in line with the government’s regulations.
Adams, who has been the head women’s lacrosse coach at Loyola University, Baltimore, for the past 12 years, said living in the US since the the coronavirus pandemic hit the country had been strange.
“In some areas there are strict curfews where people are not allowed outside,” Adams, 40, said.
“Schools in America are all shut, parents are home and everyone is doing their work on line.
“It’s been a whirlwind for all of us.
“For us in the US it was crushing for everyone to have the competitions cancelled.
“We were five games into the series without a loss so that was disappointing to stop but this is a much bigger issue for everyone.’’
Adams, who had taken her team to five National Collegiate Athletic Association titles between 2010-2016, said her job was on hold but much of her coaching could be done remotely.
“Our coaches said we should be with family at this time so that is what we are doing,” Adams, who was inducted into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2012, said.
“I am Australian through and through and that will never leave me.
“Who knows how long this will take but the feeling is that it could take some time to get over.’’
