DIVISION ONE

Prince Alfred Old Collegians returned after its bye in top form, thrashing Unley Jets at Park 9 on Saturday.

The hosts produced a solid first quarter to hold a 38-point buffer at quarter-time before prevailing 22.21 (153) to 3.9 (27).

Ex-Sturt SANFL dual premiership defender Jack Stephens made his debut for the Old Reds against the Jets but coach Craig Pitt said the victory was a result of the younger players stepping up.

“Unley has been pretty competitive with most teams all year so we weren’t expecting the result we got,” Pitt said

“But we played pretty well in the end and they probably didn’t play to their normal standard which helped us.

“Our whole team played well on the day.

“It was probably more the younger players who had just started this year who are really starting to find their feet a little bit.

“They are taking the next step which led to us being pretty consistent over the four quarters.”

St Peter’s rounded out the split round with a match against defending champions Payneham Norwood Union at Carterer Oval.

The Falcons went down 11.6 (72) to 8.13 (61).

St Peter’s sits third with the same win-loss record as PAOC but has a lower percentage than last season’s runner up.

In the clash against PNU, John Vrodos starred with three goals for the hosts, while Jesse O’Brien (two goals) and Nick McGill were also standouts.

Strato Agorastos and Dylan Pippett booted two goals each for the Falcons.
