North Melbourne re-signs ex-Glenelg forward Lachlan Hosie, ruling him out of SANFL finals

Glenelg will have to make do without the addition of a key forward for the SANFL finals. After being picked up by North Melbourne at the mid-season draft, he’s re-signed with the Roos.

Minor premier Glenelg will not have the services of key forward Lachlan Hosie when the SANFL major round kicks off on August 31.

Hosie, 22, signed a one-year contract with the Roos (today) ending speculation that the 22-year-old would return to the Bays for the major round.

Hosie was picked up at number five by North Melbourne in the controversial mid-season rookie draft.

He had been a regular member of Glenelg’s league team until then.

But Glenelg football manager Paul Sandercock said North had told the Bays that Hosie had been offered a one-year contract for 2020, ruling out any hope of returning to the club where he made his league debut in 2016.

“We have been told by North, who phoned us out of courtesy, that Lachy has been offered a 12-month contract with North for 2020, which rules him out returning to us for the finals,’’ Sandercock said.

“It would have been handy to have him (for the finals) but it’s good luck to him although we and other (SANFL) clubs are not happy with the whole-mid season draft idea.’’

The 189cm forward has made a strong impression playing with North Melbourne’s VFL side.

He kicked six goals and had 12 possessions in the Roos’ clash against Footscray last Saturday — his best haul since arriving at the club.

Hosie has booted 20 goals in 10 games and 41 goals for the season, which includes his tally with the Bays.

Meanwhile, Glenelg is hoping key forward Josh Scott will be available to play this Saturday against Sturt after re-injuring his broken arm against Central District last month.
