The minor round is nearing its end in SA’s local footy competitions, with teams vying for finals spots in the home and away season’s final month.
While most teams are still concerned with making finals or avoiding relegation, a select few are hoping to achieve something not many others can – an undefeated season.
It’s not often a senior footy team remains unbeaten through nearly six months of play, but a number of sides are remarkably still without a loss.
From Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges, we’ve listed the teams yet to lose in local footy across the state.
GOLDEN GROVE – 17-0
(Adelaide Footy League, division three)
Golden Grove’s season has been as dominant as they come, the Kookaburras winning 17 on the trot and sitting top of the ladder with a percentage of 272.50.
With the additions of former AFL and SANFL guns Cam Shenton and Lewis Johnston, the club turned an already strong list into one which looks unbeatable.
A total of 79 points is the lowest the Kookaburras have put on the board in a game this year, while they have scored over 100 on 15 separate occasions.
Their last game before finals will be played against Westminster Old Scholars this weekend.
TRINITY OLD SCHOLARS – 15-0
(Adelaide Footy League, division six)
Already a dominant team in division six last season, Trinity OS has found another level in season 2022.
With a remarkable percentage of 340.86, the side has completely dominated multiple opposition teams.
Key forward Dom Barilla remains one of the top goalkickers in the state this year, and the team has also built a strong defence, often holding sides to below 50 points.
Trinity’s biggest win so far this year was a 242-1 drubbing of bottom side Para Hills.
GREENACRES – 17-0
(Adelaide Footy League, division seven)
After defeating Hackham on Saturday, Greenacres have officially gone the entire minor round undefeated at 17-0, claiming top spot in division seven with ease heading into finals.
With a hefty percentage of 270.78, the Dragons have blown teams away this season, with a 194-21 victory over Mitchell Park their biggest.
The form of star forward Matt Gibson (91 goals) has been fundamental to the side’s success this season.
MCLAREN – 16-0
(Great Southern Football League)
The Eagles are on the cusp of becoming the first A Grade side to go an entire home and away season undefeated in the GSFL for over a decade.
Having just beaten fifth-placed Victor Harbor away from home on Saturday, the team will now face eighth spot Mount Compass at home and top four side Encounter Bay away in its two remaining games.
Led by stars such as Brett Ellis, Todd McKay and Matt Merrett, McLaren has been a powerhouse in the middle as well as in attack.
The side’s biggest win was a 220-13 result over Goolwa/Port Elliot in round four.
UNITED YEELANNA – 13-0
(Great Flinders Football League)
Led by star half-forward Michael Crettenden, United Yeelanna has put together a fantastic season 2022 so far.
The Eagles have been a defensive powerhouse, dominating through the middle and quelling opposition attacks with strong pressure.
The side has kept opposition below 50 points in 11 of its 13 games.
Yeelanna faces bottom side Eyre United this week and has the bye in the final round.
BRINKWORTH SPALDING REDHILL (BSR) – 12-0
(North Eastern Football League)
BSR only lost two games in 2021 but now sits just two wins away from finishing the minor round with an unbeaten 14-0 record.
The Tigers have been a terror defensively while also piling on bags of goals through talisman Isaac Moller (43 goals).
They face fourth placed Burra Booborowie Hallet Football Club this week, and should finish undefeated with a win, with a game against the lowly North Clare to follow.
MARBLE RANGE – 13-0
(Port Lincoln Football League)
Led by star forward Tynan Keeley, who currently sits on 54 goals, ruck utility Jed Woolford, and midfielder Jeb Casanova, Marble Range has been a force in the PLFL.
No team has scored more than 65 points against the Magpies this season, the side completely dominating the contested ball throughout the year and locking opponents in their attacking half.
The club’s biggest win this year so far was a 151-17 thrashing of Boston.
Marble Range’s biggest remaining test will be third placed Lincoln South this weekend.
