Here is what caught our eye at the weekend:

THREE OUT OF FOUR AIN’T BAD

Kensington had hoped for a brownwash by winning all four of its men’s grade grand finals over the weekend.

It did not quite happen – the Browns’ Ds sustained a 36-run defeat to East Torrens – but the club claimed three premierships.

Kensington’s A grade defended 193, bowling Adelaide out for 78 at Glenelg Oval, to win the two-day competition for the first time since 2010/11.

Elliot Opie (6/32) and Lloyd Pope (4/30) did the damage with the ball after Alex Ross (76) and Josh Doyle (59) had dug the side out of trouble with a 123-run fourth-wicket stand on day one.

The B-grade grand final was a thriller, as the Browns made 208 then had Adelaide University 6/47 and 8/83 at Parkinson Oval, only for the Blacks to mount a massive fightback.

Uni needed eight to win with one wicket in hand but Thomas Price (3/45) ended Payas Bidwai’s gritty seven-hour knock (79 off 327 balls) just in time.

Kensington had been 8/144 on the first day until No.10 Tom Mackenzie’s unbeaten 51 proved crucial.

In the Cs, Liam Scanlon finished unbeaten on 99 in the Browns’ 5/221 then Kensington ripped through Glenelg for 88.

It is believed Kensington is the only club to ever have all four sides in men’s grade grand finals.

STINGRAYS CLAIM A CROWN

Southern District was not able to win its first women’s A-grade one-day title but it claimed the crown in the Bs.

The Stingrays batted first and posted 7/131 from their 40 overs before dismissing Adelaide University for 103.

Kaitlyn Heath (5/15 from six overs) starred with the ball for Southern, cleaning up the tail after the Blacks had fought back from being 2/0 and 6/28.

Narelle Maiolo (52 off 101 balls) topscored for the Stingrays.

NERVOUS CHASE

Bat first and get runs on the board then you win finals – except for this game.

In the Para Districts LO3 grand final, Angle Vale piled up a fairly handy 263 from its 40 overs, leaving Craigmore quite anxious at the innings break.

The nerves settled during a spectacular second-wicket stand of 192 between Adam Warren (113) and Anthony Nobes (74).

It led to a premiership with a six-wicket win.

TAIL WAGS INTO GRAND FINAL

When you are 9/152, chasing 173 for victory in a semi-final, you need a bit of luck – and a hero or two.

That was the situation Trinity Old Scholars found itself in on the weekend, as it teetered on the edge of an exit from the A2 Turf premiership race against Flinders Park at home.

But No.10 Bradley Schaper came to the rescue for Trinity, making an unbeaten 20 to help get his side over the line.

Stefan Lainas was yet to score but not out at the other end.

Trinity will now play Marion in this weekend’s title decider.

NEVER SAY NEVER

Runs on the board can also be the be-all and end-all – no matter how few you make.

In the Turf LO6 semi-final, Old Ignatians was dismissed for 66.

No problem.

Simply scuttle Flinders University for 35.

QUICKFIRE DARCY

It was also grand final time in Para Districts’ under-14s, where Craigmore’s Darcy Rundle led the way with 66 not out from 47 balls as his side set Salisbury West 9/234.

RAMBLERS IN CONTROL

Some games were halfway through at the time of writing but in the Adelaide & Suburban Section Nine semi-final, that should not stop us knowing the winner.

Mitchell Park could only manage 39 against Coromandel Ramblers as veteran Wayne Jones snared 4/2 from five overs.

Ramblers crawled to 4/68 at stumps.

BOWLERS HOLD SWAY

In the ASCA Section Eight semi-final, ICC Sharks slumped to 5/23 and never recovered, managing just 63.

Coromandel’s Christian Leschke took 5/26 from 10 overs.
The reply was cruising at 0/39, before 6/16 fell in the shadow of stumps.

All six went to Michael Todd, who grabbed 6/18 from seven overs.

ALL OVER QUICKLY

In ASCA Section Four, Western Youth was flying at 2/181, thanks mostly to Shawn McGregor (80).

It all fell apart from there, as Western Youth lost 7/25.

Sheidow Park still has its work cut out, chasing 206.

DOING THEIR BIT

Glenelg ANA was in early trouble at 4/40 in the ASCA Section Two semi-final, before Jamie Craig (82) and Daniel Rowe (66) got together for a 103-run stand.

Not much either side of that in a total of 176, but still a tough chase for Morphettville Park.

SIX OF THE BEST

In the other LO6 semi-final, Kilburn would not have been overly-confident with its 130.

Jay Woolford put the side at ease, taking 6/3 from five overs to flatten Glenunga for 44.
