A local SA footy club has signed a former AFL player and a SANFL star ahead of next season after falling short of premiership success in 2023.

Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League club Keith has signed former Port Adelaide, Gold Coast and North Adelaide midfielder Aaron Young alongside fellow Rooster, defender Cameron Craig.

Young, who played 100 AFL games and won a Magarey Medal with the Roosters in 2022, joins the Crows after another standout season at SANFL level, averaging 20 touches and a goal at 70% disposal efficiency in 2023.

Craig, a star backman who spent 17 years at North Adelaide and played in the club’s 2018 premiership, will join his teammate at Keith, marking a significant move for the South East club.

“The Keith Football Club is thrilled to welcome Aaron Young and Cameron Craig to the club, both arriving from the North Adelaide Football Club,” a Keith spokesperson said.

“Aaron is an exceptional ball-winning midfielder who is quick and powerful at stoppage and extremely dangerous in front of goal … we can’t wait to see him in Crows colours in 2024.

“One of the elite defenders in the SANFL over the past decade, Cam is a super competitive player who is strong, powerful and brilliant in the air.

“He also has the ability to play forward and is a multiple time SANFL Team of the Year member who will bring great membership to the group.”

Young played 64 games for North Adelaide and kicked 64 goals.

He also played 37 SANFL games for Port Adelaide, taking his total to 101 games.

“My time at North Adelaide has provided so many special moments and has given me the chance to meet some incredible people along the way,” Young said in a statement after hanging up his boots.

“I’ll always feel extremely grateful to have worn the red and white.”

Craig – who played nearly 200 games for North Adelaide and was vice-captain of the club in 2022 and 2023 – also gave his thanks to the Roosters earlier this year.

“Thank you to the whole NAFC community, from all the coaches, volunteers, trainers, members, and players that I have been lucky enough to share my football journey with,” he said.

“I am fortunate to have made some lifelong connections and friendships with many memories that will last forever. The club has been a massive part of my life and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to represent this amazing club for many years.”

The two will join former star North Adelaide forward and current Keith playing-coach Lewis Hender at the Crows.

Hender took over from George Thring prior to the 2023 season and had a fantastic campaign, playing up front and through the middle to boot 33 majors and lead his side to finals.
