NORWOOD and North Adelaide will kickstart the inaugural SANFL women’s competition as part of a double-header at Norwood Oval next month.
The SANFL released the competition fixture today featuring the round one clash between the Redlegs and the Roosters on Friday, February 17, at 6pm.
The game will be followed by Glenelg versus West Adelaide at 8.10pm.
All matches in the six minor rounds will be played as double-headers at either The Parade or Richmond Oval.
The round four games at Norwood on Saturday, March 4, will be curtain raisers to Adelaide’s AFL women’s clash with Brisbane
The SANFL women’s minor round will end on Saturday, March 25.
A grand final between the top two ranked sides will be played at Unley Oval on Saturday, April 1, at 4.30pm.
SANFL chief executive Jake Parkinson said it was “an exciting time” for female football in SA.
“(It is) a great opportunity for the inaugural players and clubs to make their mark on the competition,” Parkinson said.
In November, the SANFL revealed Glenelg, North Adelaide, Norwood and West Adelaide had won the right to contest the first season of the women’s league.
South Adelaide and Central District were not awarded licences for the new competition.
Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens were the only non-AFL aligned clubs not to seek a place in the new competition.
Entry to all SANFL women’s matches will be free.
