The Saints went undefeated through the minor round but entered the grand final at Thebarton with a slight question mark over them after ROC ran over it to win the second semi by four points.
Goodwood had also lost four consecutive preliminary finals from 2010-13 but it emphatically answered any questions over its ability to perform with a 14.10 (94) to 7.7 (49) win.
“I’m proud of them,’’ coach Mills said.
“We learnt a lot from the second semi-final and we played the football we wanted to play today.
“Our pressure and our workrate today were phenomenal. We were really good today.”
Goodwood looked switched on early and kicked the first two goals of the match into the breeze, before ROC settled into the game and the remainder of the first term was evenly contested.
With Matt Illman outstanding across half-back, Goodwood began taking a stranglehold on the match in the second term and took a 9.4 (58) to 5.3 (33) lead into main break.
ROC’s slick outside runners were damaging a fortnight earlier, but Goody’s pressure negated them this time and the match was all over by three-quarter time.
Illman was best afield and former Richmond player Shane Tuck was dominant in the midfield, while Aaron Bayliss and Tom Anderson were prolific.
Goodwood also won premierships at under-18, C-grade and B-grade level, demonstrating its depth.
