Glenunga announced its arrival as a genuine force in the Adelaide Footy League competition by claiming its third consecutive premiership at Richmond Oval on Saturday.

The Rams accounted for Old Ignatians in the division three decider, 12.14 (86) to 10.5 (65).

They have now joined an elusive club — Pulteney was the last term to win back-to-back-to-back flags in 1998 (A7), 1999 (A6) and 2000 (A5).

Glenunga kicked off its three peat in 2017 in division five, last year in the fourth tier, before Saturday’s victory.

Rams’ coach John Cunningham said it was a special day for the team and the club.

“It’s a fantastic local news story with a lot of people putting in a lot of work to get the club to where it is today,’’ Cunningham said.

“It’s been a big challenge and a big journey but we are so proud of everyone.

“It was a tough grand final and Old Iggies just kept coming.

“I think having the week off really helped us.

“It just shows if you get the right people then anything is possible.’’

Steven Pollock with four goals (three in the first half) was awarded the best on ground medal.

He said his teammates and the club were outstanding.

“This is my first year at the club as I have been a bit of a journeyman with playing league (SANFL, North Adelaide), amateurs with Tea Tree Gully and coaching interstate,’’ Pollock said.

“I have loved it here.

“We met the challenge really well.’’

Old Iggies’ coach Damian Boots said his side gave everything but thought the hard game the week before probably hurt.

“We just kept believing right until the end,’’ Boots said.

“We were probably a bit banged up coming in but the players were terrific.

“The club’s in a very good position with good depth and in a strong position moving forward.’’

Glenunga looked set to blow the game open several times but had to give everything it had to shake off a plucky Old Iggies side.

Nick Wundke, with two outstanding goals early in the last quarter, sealed the win.

Harry Prosser also was dangerous in attack for the Rams with three goals in the first half, while Jared Centenera (two majors) provided a spark for Old Iggies, as did Jack Manson in the first half.

Glenunga and Old Ignatians will compete in division two next season.
