Andrew Jarman’s five-year stint at Gaza has come to an end with the coach and club choosing to part ways after a tough 2019 season.
The Klemzig club announced on Wednesday the former Adelaide Crows, Norwood and North Adelaide player had agreed with the club to not continue as senior coach.
The Eagles were relegated to division three of the Adelaide Footy League for the first time in 41 years after finishing bottom of the second tier with a record of one win, 16 losses and a draw.
Jarman, who has several media commitments, was unable to give “due justice” to role given his increasing interests outside of the club, according to a Gaza announcement.
Jarman declined to comment.
But speaking to The Messenger in July, Jarman said it had been a tough season and the club was realistic about where it stood.
But he was confident he had fulfilled the job Gaza brought him in to do in 2015.
“They got me in four years ago to promote youth and change the culture,” Jarman said.
“I think I’ve ticked those two boxes.”
Jarman also said it had been a tough season and the club was realistic about where it stood.
Gaza spent 14 straight years in division one from 2001-2014 during which it played in four grand finals and won two premierships (2003, 2011).
Relegation to division two in 2014 was followed by sixth, fourth and seventh-placed finishes before the recent season.
Jarman, who had been associated with Gaza for more than four decades, said the 41-year stretch in the top two tiers was a “remarkable performance” but there was “no shame” in any club being relegated.
The Eagles’ sole victory in 2019 was a 10-point triumph at home to Seaton Ramblers in round seven.
They stole a point in round one against Scotch when Damon Hill kicked a goal after the siren to draw 13.7 (85) to 12.13 (85) at Klemzig Oval.
