Former NSL rivals West Adelaide and Adelaide City to open SA Premier League season

A BLOCKBUSTER clash between former National Soccer League rivals West Adelaide and Adelaide City will kick off the new SA Premier League season next month.

The Friday, February 21, match will be played at the new Adelaide Shores Football Centre and will be the first local league match played on artificial turf.

Football Federation SA released fixtures for the 14-team competition this week featuring a 26-match season followed by a top-six finals series.

The other standout clash in the opening round sees a replay of last season's grand final between Campbelltown City and Blue Eagles at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre on Saturday, February 22.

Para Hills opens its season at home to West Torrens Birkalla, while Western Strikers hosts 2013 surprise packets Cumberland United.

Last season's minor premier MetroStars kicks off its campaign against White City at TK Shutter Reserve.

Top flight debutants South Adelaide faces a tough assignment first up when it travels to face Raiders at the Croatian Sports Centre on Sunday, February 23.

The final match of round one will take place at Santos Stadium when Adelaide Comets face Croydon Kings on Monday, February 23.

Other early season highlights include the clash between traditional rivals White City and Raiders on Friday, February 28, and the eastern suburbs derby between Adelaide City and Blue Eagles on Friday, March 7.

The draw includes full rounds of matches on the Monday, March 10, and Monday, June 9, public holidays.

The last round of regular season games are scheduled for Saturday, August 16.

The finals series will kick off on Friday, August 22, with the grand final on Saturday, September 14.

The National Premier League series, featuring the champion clubs from each state, will run from Friday, September 19, to Sunday, October 5.

Round one of the Federation Cup will be held on Saturday, February 15, with the final on Saturday, May 31.

The cup winners will go on to represent SA in the inaugural Football Federation Australia Cup with the chance to take on A-League clubs.

FFSA is yet to release re-drafted fixtures for the State League following the withdrawal of Enfield City earlier this month.
