Ex-Port and Richmond midfielder Andrew Moore to add leadership and depth to Roosters

North Adelaide new recruit Andrew Moore is keen to return to the Roosters and brings with him experience on VFL’s biggest stage.

As North Adelaide celebrated its drought-breaking 2018 SANFL flag, former midfielder Andrew Moore was preparing to captain Box Hill in a VFL grand final.

A week after the Roosters’ victory, Moore achieved the same feat, leading the Hawks to a

premiership.

Now the 28-year-old is hoping to claim ultimate success again – this time with North Adelaide – after signing with the Roosters for the 2020 SANFL season.

Moore featured in 17 league games with North between 2010 and 2013.

He was on the Port Adelaide list at the time – an era when AFL-listed players in SA were assigned to SANFL clubs.

“I did watch a little bit of it (2018 SANFL grand final) and I was rapt for the club,” Moore says.

“I knew it was something they were building towards and it was a very special moment.

“It was quite funny that I was going through the same thing at the time with Box Hill.

“Hopefully we can re-live something similar in the coming years (at North).”

Moore played 60 AFL games for the Power and Richmond between 2010 and 2016 before spending the past three seasons with Box Hill – Hawthorn’s VFL affiliate.

The on-baller hails from Victoria, but his wife Kate is Adelaide-born.

With their first child expected in March, they decided to return to SA.

“I’ve loved the journey at Box Hill and I’ve loved the people I met along the way and the opportunity they gave me,” Moore says.

“But there comes a time where you do need to make some tough decisions.

“We just to be a bit closer to her family and her friends to have that little bit of support and help if we need it.

“I was there (at North) for three years when I first got picked up by Port Adelaide and loved my time there.”

Moore said he learned a lot from being involved with Box Hill and was also lucky enough to play alongside ex-Hawthorn premiership star Jarryd Roughead, who was dropped to the VFL this year.

He hopes to bring that experience to North Adelaide, which will be without former captain Max Thring (retirement) and looking to improve after claiming just four wins in 2019.

“I really want to pass on my experiences and what I’ve learned over the 10 years that I’ve been part of a high-performance environment,” Moore says.

“I love being able to lead players and hopefully have an impact on-field and off-field as well.

“I still take pride in my performance and I feel as though I can still play at a decent standard in the SANFL – and I want to prove that, too.”
