WHETHER slugging it out with a bat in hand or feeding the stars of tomorrow, Cynthia Langley is table tennis through-and-through.
In almost five decades devoted to the sport, the 72 year old has been a nationally-ranked player, organised countless tournaments and served as a state selector.
“I enjoy working with all the people and get on with everyone involved in the sport,” says Langley, who spent the weekend preparing food for junior state teams.
“We all work together and I’ve had my whole family involved.
“There’s been a lot of exciting times.”
Langley, of Happy Valley, began playing table tennis in 1962, was SA Table Tennis Association secretary from 1971-2005 and is now Table Tennis SA’s event management director.
The Brighton Table Tennis Club life member’s dedication was recognised last year when she was named Volunteer of the Year in the Sport SA Awards.
Nominations for this year’s awards, which include categories for officials, administrators, coaches, country athletes and events, close this Friday.
“It was really exciting and lovely to win,” says Langley, who will play for SA at the Australian Veterans championships in Queensland in October.
“It’s great for people to be recognised for the time and effort they put in.”
Award winners will be announced at the Celebration of SA Sport at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Wednesday, November 25.
