Delisted Port Adelaide midfielder Jimmy Toumpas has returned to his roots to play for junior club Woodville-West Torrens next season.
The former Melbourne Demon, picked at No.4 in the 2012 national draft, was cut by the Power in August but the Eagles announced he had signed for 2019 on Thursday.
Toumpas, 24, joins new coach Sam Lonergan at Oval Ave.
“It’s great to be back at the Eagles my junior club and I can’t wait to get around my new teammates and play a role in our future success,” Toumpas told the Eagles website.
“It’s an exciting time with Sam as the new coach and I’m looking forward to getting things started.”
Toumpas was part of the Eagles’ triumphant 2011 premiership side in just his fifth senior game.
He then went on to play 27 AFL games with the Demons from 2013-15 before a further 10 at Port the past two seasons.
Eagles chief executive Luke Powell said he was excited one of the club’s junior products had returned.
“Jimmy’s versatility will see him playing an important role through our midfield and defence that will complement our group,” Powell told the Eagles website.
“We see Jimmy as a great long-term player for us and a player who can provide great guidance and leadership to the playing list.”
