Crows defender Sarah Allan says players will remain positive despite 42-point loss to Kangaroos

Adelaide will not be hitting the panic button just yet despite dropping its must-win AFLW clash to North Melbourne, says defender Sarah Allan.

The Weekend Wrap Episode 4

Crows defender Sarah Allan is proud of her side’s ability to fight back and never give up following a 42-point loss to North Melbourne in Hobart on Saturday.

Adelaide’s hopes of making the finals and claiming back-to-back AFLW flags are fading quickly following the 9.9 (63) to 3.2 (21) thrashing against North Melbourne.

The Crows were missing much of their top-end talent, including co-captain Erin Phillips (knee soreness) Courtney Cramey (calf) and Jess Foley (foot).

Their inexperience shone through, especially in the second and third term when Adelaide only managed to kick one point in those two quarters.

The Crows did, however, work hard to stay in the contest in the final quarter and matches the hosts as both sides booted 2.1.

Allan, who was forced to contend with the Kangaroos’ rampant and dynamic forward line, said there were plenty of positives to take out of the loss.

“Obviously we weren’t at the level we had to be,” Allan said.

“But we did really well to try and stay in the contest throughout the whole game and that we never gave up.

“We were a bit of a younger side out there (against North Melbourne) so it’s promising for our youth that they are getting the development they need.

“At least we pushed through for the four quarters and tried our best.

“That’s promising for those young girls to have that mentality of never giving p and getting into the contest.

“For (first-year player) Caitlin Gould to take a few important marks in the last quarter to keep us in it was really promising and shows that development coming through.”

The Crows dropped down to fifth (at the time of publication with round five games still to be played), but Allan, who finished the match with 14 disposals and two tackles, said there would be no panic within the team.

Players would instead quickly turn their focus to the clash against GWS at Richmond next Sunday.

“We will just refresh how we usually would during the week and move on pretty quickly,” Allan said.

“We can play at that level, so we won’t go around changing too much.

“We just need to reassess and put in the hard work this week to get ready for the rest of the season.

“We’ve still got three games to go, so we just need to work on playing our game for four quarters.”
