Crows AFLW star Chloe Scheer is enjoying her return from an ACL, alongside her sister with Payneham Norwood Union

She ruptured her ACL in the Crows 2019 AFLW grand final win but this teen football sensation is back doing what she loves.

Crows AFLW star Chloe Scheer describes her older sister Abbey and her partner Danielle Stewart as her “rocks”.

Abbey and Stewart have helped Scheer through the most challenging 16 months.

The rising football star ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament during the Crows’ AFLW grand final win in March 2019 – her second ACL in two years.

That was why, as she navigated her way back to competitive footy, Scheer shunned a return through the SANFLW but instead decided to feature with Adelaide Footy League women’s team Payneham Norwood Union.

The 20-year-old midfielder/forward helped with coaching at the Falcons last year and, with the side promoted to division one this season, Scheer was keen to take up an on-field role.

Scheer has played all four matches and starred with 11 goals so far, helping PNU sit top of the ladder and undefeated.

“My partner Danielle has been there for me and coming back and playing footy with her, probably for the last time, means so much to her,” Chloe said.

“With Abbey, too, it’ll probably be the last time I can play alongside her, so it feels really special.

“Also last year when I was helping out here, I could see how incredible the club is and the culture they have and I really wanted to be part of it.”

Abbey lined up in the SANFLW with Central District last season but due to work commitments as an aged carer she decided to step down from the state league in 2020.

She began training with Angle Vale before the season started.

But when Chloe decided she was going to line up with PNU, Abbey made the switch to the Falcons.

The Scheer sisters not only train and play football together, they also live together.

Abbey, 22, said playing in the same football team as her sister again was a dream come true.

“It’s great to be playing out there with Chloe again,” Abbey said.

“It’s amazing having my sister out there who plays elite football is incredible.

“Everyone is a family here.

“All the girls get around each other and it’s a great environment.”

The Falcons will be looking to maintain their unbeaten status when they host Adelaide University this Saturday at 3.30pm.

Chloe, meanwhile, will play out the remainder of the season with PNU but also has her sights set on returning to the Crows’ AFLW line up in 2021.
