Can Noarlunga end the season top or will Christies Beach march to the summit?

Check out who Messenger’s Southern Football League guru Gordon Armstrong reckons will finish top with six rounds remaining.

Noarlunga to hold top spot, Christies Beach and Flagstaff Hill to meet in a qualifying final, while Port Noarlunga and Reynella are set for an elimination final.

They look to be the likely scenarios for this season’s Southern Football League major round. There was a competition-wide bye at the weekend to make way for the SA Country Championships and it gave teams a chance to refresh before the final six games of the campaign.

Barring a couple of upsets, it seems like the top five won’t change as Reynella’s narrow win against Morphett Vale almost certainly secured it fifth place ahead of the Emus and Happy Valley

The question many fans are asking is if Christies Beach can break the recent domination of Noarlunga and Flagstaff Hill when it comes to holding the trophy up on grand final day on September 21.

The Saints look to have the firepower and depth to test the Shoes and Falcons with a strong blend of experience and younger players coming through.

But Christies Beach coach Neil Reeve refused to think too far ahead with games against the other possible finalists to come.

“For us it will be focusing on the last six rounds and doing better than the previous year at the same time,” Reeve said.

“We are in a good position and want to maintain our pressure. It’s a pretty tough run home for us but we are looking forward to it.”

Round 13 kicks off with a clash between Flagstaff Hill and Morphett Vale on Saturday. In other games, also set for Saturday, Happy Valley plays Noarlunga, Port Noarlunga battles Aldinga and Reynella takes on Christies Beach. Cove has the bye.
