This is the football team that has never lost a game.
Broadview’s senior women’s side was only established at the beginning of last year but won all its 30 matches – including two premierships – in the past two seasons.
The Tigers began their inaugural campaign in the Adelaide Footy League women’s division four last year and triumphed in 12 minor round games with an average winning margin of 53 points.
They then claimed the 2018 the flag, beating West Croydon 4.11 (35) to 0.1 (1).
Broadview was promoted to the third tier in 2019 and prevailed in all 14 minor rounds, boasting an average winning margin of 58 points.
This month, the Poltawa Tce-based club triumphed over Old Ignatians in the flag decider, 6.7 (43) to 1.1 (7) at Thebarton Oval.
Coach Phil Summers said the side was three years in the making.
“They wanted to start women’s footy at Broadview three years ago but they couldn’t get enough senior women so they had an under-16 team, and that was the start of it,” Summers says.
“They tried again last year and finally got enough for a senior team, then it’s gone from strength to strength.
“I think girls are just really happy now they are able to play footy.
“For a long time there was no avenue for them to play and there’s a lot who have been keen for a while and they’ve seen their friends play and just have so much fun.
“I’ve said to them that I want them to be able to know what it’s like to be out there with your teammates, sharing blood, sweat and tears and then you come off and sing the song together.
“I think they’ve really enjoyed the team spirit.”
Summers, 54, says having a strong club culture is just as important as improving players’ skills – and that has helped the team be so successful.
The Tigers will be promoted to division two next season.
Broadview captain Alex Macolino says leading the side this campaign is an honour.
“A lot of hard went into this season,” Macolino, 19, says.
“Winning this year’s premiership was pretty surreal.
“When you put so much hard work into an undefeated season and then it all comes down to that game, seeing it all pay off is really just the best feeling.”
