Round 15 of the Adelaide Footy League has been played out over the weekend, marking the beginning of the final month of the competition before finals.

Clubs in divisions two to seven all took to the field for an exciting week of footy, while division one teams – who will play their round 15 this coming Saturday – had a week off.

Here are The Messenger’s match reports for each div:

DIVISION TWO

Broadview coach Matt Burgess was thrilled with his side’s win over Gaza in round 15, despite a slow opening quarter.

The Tigers went into the first break down 19-28 at home, but managed to kick into gear through the final three terms, emerging 13.13 (91) to 6.10 (46) victors.

The visiting Eagles got their hands to the ball first in the opening term, with Scott Lewis dominant in the middle.

Forward Damon Hill benefited, booting three goals in the term.

The Tigers lifted the intensity after the first break, with Kane Flanagan locking down Hill, and Kobi Russell, captain Cooper O’Leary and ruckman Max Oborn all finding another level.

Forward Jesse White was also in good form, kicking four majors.

“It was pleasing to get the result,” Burgess said.

“We knew they (Gaza) would be fighting to avoid relegation so we expected them to come out firing.

“For the guys to stick with the game plan and get on top, that was definitely a positive.”

Gaza was held to just two goals after quarter-time, with Broadview dominating on the ball and not allowing their opponent any time or space when it didn’t have possession.

“We wanted to deny them the footy and get our hands on the ball first and we were able to do that for the most part,” Burgess said.

“Gaza have some quality players so to be able to play tough footy, nullify them for most of the game and restrict their damage on the scoreboard was key.”

Broadview now sits top of the ladder with just three games left before finals.

While the side has a struggling Adelaide Uni up next, Burgess said they were not resting on their laurels.

“We obviously want to keep honing our style, winning, finish as high as we can and compete in finals but we know we have some tough fixtures coming up,” he said.

“Uni is a proud, well-coached footy club which is hungry for a win so we need to compete unconditionally and make sure we come away with another two points.”

North Haven kept its fight for a double chance alive as it came back from nine points down at three-quarter time to defeat Sacred Heart Old Collegians away from home in a thriller – 12.10 (82) to 12.11 (83).

The Magpies led early but Alex Cailotto took control in the ruck for SHOC, boosting his side to a 13-point lead at the main break.

Captain Mark Rowe and star Ryan McInerney soon gained control through the middle for North Haven however, suddenly putting the hosts on the back foot.

The visitors dominated out of the centre in the final term, and while they booted two early goals, inaccuracy left the door open for SHOC to grab the win.

The forwardline stepped up late however, with Jamie Solly, Kyran Dixon and Tom Sandercock all competing hard and hitting the scoreboard as the Magpies took the lead late and held tough to win an epic.

Ramblers shot out of the blocks to start the final quarter, with captain Luke Rochester going hard in the contest.

The visitors managed to hit the front with only minutes left but a Dane Thompson clearance in the dying seconds led to an Alex Barns mark in the square.

The hobbled key forward went back and calmly slotted his third major, giving his side a 10.7 (67) to 9.11 (65) win – a huge two points in the context of the season.
