Adelaide Footy League club Salisbury North docked premiership points

An Adelaide Footy League club has been docked almost all of its accrued premiership points so far this season after breaching the approved player points system.

Adelaide Footy League Marks of the Week

An Adelaide Footy League club has been stripped of almost all of its premiership points so far this season after breaching the approved player points system.

Salisbury North has been docked six premiership points and percentage from the first three weeks of the season after exceeding the player point limit – used to sign players – of 15.

The Adelaide Footy League last week became aware it needed to look at clubs’ points through an APPS audit conducted by the SA Community Football League.

The Hawks were found to have exceeded the 15-point limit.

In a letter to all division two clubs from the league, chief John Kernahan said the club had cooperated seamlessly to reach an outcome.

“The SNFC have paid a heavy price for a relatively innocuous oversight. But the SNFC have owned their part in this without question which has allowed us to collaborate with SANFL and draw this matter to a close citing absolute cooperation in their (SNFC) very transparent explanation of the breach,” Kernahan said.

“As a result, SNFC have been penalised the premiership points and percentage accrued from the first 3 weeks of the season and results have been amended reflecting a revised ladder. The potential for fines or availability of APPS points have been set aside due to the club’s cooperation.

“It is also opportune to flag from the outset that Audits of APPS values for all AdFL Clubs will continue by both SACFL and the AdFL as matter of priority.”

The points certain players (AFL, SANFL, affiliated amateur league club etc) are worth is stipulated under the current Approved Player Points System.

Clubs and players also need to present a signed declaration to the league including a player’s playing history and an assessment of the player points rating of that player calculated under the APPS.

The development comes just after division three club Gaza was investigated for alleged breaches of the salary cap.

Salisbury North was previously undefeated this season, but is now 1-3 and sits third bottom
