A $2m service station planned for across the road from another in a popular seaside town has been proposed for a second time despite fears from locals it will edge out the little guys.

Adelaide Planning and Development Solutions Pty Ltd, on the behalf of X Convenience, logged plans with Victor Harbor Council assessment panel to build a 24/7 service station at 2-4 Adelaide Rd, Hayborough with 12 dispensers, drive-through and a car wash facility.

The site was previously a children’s play cafe and sits adjacent to an On The Run fuel outlet, according to the report.

Plans for the site were initially logged earlier this year with local residents shutting down the application raising concerns they believed the area was already over-exploited with service stations.

“If it does go ahead I feel sorry for the little guy that owns the Liberty how the hell is he supposed to compete?” Leonie Cooke wrote.

“Why do we need so many petrol stations? I hope they are going to be offering cheaper fuel,” Anne Allen submitted.

Similar plans were logged by the business in Adelaide’s inner south triggered nearly 30 objections and left residents worried about late night loiterers.

However, Adelaide Planning and Development Solutions Pty Ltd are adamant its Victor Harbor design would keep with the rest of the business district.

“The proposal will complement the existing Adelaide Road and Port Elliot Road environment and sit comfortably within the existing streetscape with appropriate siting and landscaping in keeping with the desired outcomes of the Employment Zone,” the report said.

Planning consent is currently still under assessment while the application is currently on public notification and closes at the end of November.

Meanwhile, Marion Council has been forced to move a crucial meeting over a controversial petrol station plan on the corner of Diagonal and Miller roads at Sturt because of unprecedented public backlash.
