At more than 50 years old, the Willunga Almond Blossom Festival has been an annual highlight for the southern community.
But this year, things will look a little different.
For the first time in its five decade history, the festival will take place on a November weekend – including a Friday evening for the first time – after being postponed due to COVID-19.
Event co-ordinator Heather Williams says the event will celebrate all things “almond” while raising funds for the community-owned Willunga Recreation Park.
“This year has been a year like no other and the community support for this much-
loved event has been humbling,” she said.
“We are pleased to be able present the festival in a time that the community needs something to look forward to.
“The festival celebrates the rich heritage that is Willunga, and is proudly run by locals to support the local community.”
From November 20 to 22, the festival will transform the recreation park into the Almond Hub with local food and drink, musicians, market stalls and amusement rides.
The hub will showcase new almond recipes, children’s activities and even an almond cracking competition.
Up to 8000 people are expected to attend the long-running community fundraiser weekend.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, attendees are encouraged to pre purchase tickets starting at $5.
