Known for its rich and bold red wines, the McLaren Vale region is a favourite for any South Australian – and international – wine lover.
Now, after we put out the call to help find your favourite McLaren Vale wineries, the very best have been revealed.
Wirra Wirra Vineyards topped the list in The Messenger’s best wineries poll.
“It’s fantastic to be recognised especially since we’ve just revamped the cellar door and people coming through are really loving the experience,” cellar door and tourism manager Lisa McNicol said.
“The wines are outstanding and they speak for themselves but we have an exceptional staff that take a lot of pride in what they do in the cellar door and they’ve taken a lot of time to educate themselves.”
The recent cellar door revamp includes the introduction of an edible garden, which will supply produce to the onsite cafe, Harry’s Deli.
The Strout Road winery is best known for its Church Block – a cabernet sauvignon shiraz merlot blend.
But Ms McNicol said it was Wirra Wirra’s Amator range of wines that were attracting attention, as more people looked for organic and biodynamic wines.
“It comes from our Estate Vineyards and they’re biodynamic certified which means no chemicals or pesticides are used on the vineyards,” she said.
“They can only be purchased at our cellar door and they’re made in small batches so they’re a real hit with our customers because they can’t be bought anywhere else.”
Rounding out the top three in the votes for McLaren Vale were d’Arenberg and Samuel’s Gorge.
Langhorne Creek’s Bleasdale Vineyards was voted the best winery in South Australia in the poll, which attracted more than 2500 votes.
