Beachside mansions have been trumped for hills escapes for the title of the biggest house sales for 2020 in Adelaide’s south.

Properties with acreage and room for livestock featured heavily in the top 10.

Grant Giordano from Sotheby’s International Realty – and the man behind the second largest sale of the year – said large lifestyle properties were increasingly popular.

“With the pandemic and the fact that people are starting to work remotely and can work remotely in such an interconnected world while also having that lifestyle,” Mr Giordano said.

“These areas have been geographically isolated before but we’ve overcome that isolation with the technology available to us.

“These properties can also be commercially viable … and income producing whether its accommodation, agriculture or other commercial interests.

“So of course there is increased demand because these houses are actually working for you.”

But local real estate agent Paul Goodwin of Harcourts Packham said beachside suburbs always have and always will be popular with buyers.

“Most people want to be west of Brighton Road and on that beachside strip,” Mr Goodwin said.

“Especially people from Sydney and overseas, they love the beachside and with Marino having the views as well it’s very popular with interstate and international buyers.”

Here are the top 10 most expensive sales in the south between January 1 and December 15 this year.
