A NATURE playground in the heart of Noarlunga Centre will open just in time for children to test out before heading back to school next week.
Onkaparinga Council will open The Great Garden at Ramsay Place on Friday, at 2pm.
The playground, which has slides, jungle ropes, water features and musical instruments, cost $210,000 to build.
It is the first stage in the council’s $1.3 million plan to breathe new life into the space between its offices, Colonnades Shopping Centre, Hopgood Theatre and Noarlunga TAFE.
Later plans include expanding the lawn area, installing bench seats and creating an outdoor space for events, markets and potentially outdoor dining.
These plans are unfunded.
The Great Garden launch will include free activities including a puppet show, making balls of different seeds to plant in the garden, and a meet and greet with native animals.
Aberfoyle Park resident Nat Nagy said her sons Kurtis and Tommy were thrilled to take a sneak peak.
“They find parts of it more difficult that they thought — walking on the tight rope they thought was going to be a breeze,” Ms Nagy said.
“I think it will be a well used space.
“It just gives the kids something else they can do when we come to the shops.
“It gives them a place where they can focus their attention ... and there’s lots they can climb on.”
