An old-fashioned general store and post office on the Esplanade at Sellicks Beach would be demolished to make way for a three-storey apartment complex, under new plans lodged with Onkaparinga Council.
Plans have been submitted for a $2 million multistorey development consisting of up to three retail stores, a post office and carparking on the ground floor.
Five two-storey apartments would be built on the upper levels with living spaces on the first floor and bedrooms on the second floor.
Friends of Sellicks chairman Haydon Manning said he expected there to be a range of views in the community on the development.
He said some would likely say the general store “harked back to the past”.
“While, others would argue it’s the 21st century,” Mr Manning said.
“In my view, there will be differing views ... (so) we are getting the information out to people so they can make up their own mind.”
He said Friends of Sellicks planned to meet with Onkaparinga Council to discuss the plans.
