Seaford Rise cricketer Sean McIvor denied 10-wicket haul as brother Sean takes final scalp

IT IS not often a bowler is sorry for taking a wicket, but Tye McIvor says he had to apologise to his brother, Sean, after denying him a record haul.

IT IS not often a bowler is sorry for taking a wicket.

But Seaford Rise cricketer Tye McIvor, 18, says he felt he had to apologise to his brother, Sean, when he scuppered his chances of entering the Southern Cricket Association record books against Morphett Vale earlier this month.

Right-arm paceman Sean, 25, had taken the first nine scalps in the Emus' innings and was on the verge of a 10-wicket haul - until Tye intervened.

Tye bowled Morphett Vale batsman Brenton Hillman with a slower ball, leaving his older brother with career-best figures of 9/35 off 14 overs.

"Straight away I said 'sorry mate'," Tye says.

"I feel kind of bad because it (10-wicket hauls) doesn't happen very often.

"He doesn't drink beer but I probably owe him a bourbon."

The association does not have records of any players taking all 10 wickets in an innings in recent seasons, but two other Seaford Rise players have claimed nine-wicket hauls in the past five years.

Sean, Seaford's captain, says he quickly forgave Tye for taking the last wicket.

"Just before he started his over when he took the 10th wicket I said to him 'there's one more to go, be the one to get it'.

"I was actually hoping someone else would get it."

Sean says he felt "in the zone" when he was bowling.

"They were coming out a treat and they were coming out pretty quick.

"I just tried to lead by example and it was just fortunate that it was my day."

The McIvors have been playing together at Seaford Rise since the start of the 2012/13 season following Sean's return from Southern District, where he played A grade.

Before that Tye, Sean and their brother Corey, 23, were backyard cricket rivals, playing "Test matches" every Boxing Day at home.
