The future Aldinga Railway Station will be built close to the centre of a 94ha vacant block, under a State Government plan.
Renewal SA has released a draft structure plan for the site bounded by Main South, Aldinga Beach, Quinliven and How roads.
Aldinga is one of the state’s fastest growing regions and the draft structure plan will allow Renewal SA to determine future uses for the land, and the infrastructure needed to develop it.
This plan — which includes a rail extension from Seaford, 1000 homes and the new southern birth to Year 12 school — is now out for community consultation.
The draft plan takes into account feedback received from locals and Onkaparinga Council during the first round of consultation earlier this year.
The first plan released for consultation had two options for the railway station, the now preferred proposal of building closer to the school and nearer to the centre, and the other facing out onto Aldinga Beach Rd.
Renewal SA says the first option was chosen by the council, the transport department and many locals as it will reduce traffic on Aldinga Beach Rd and be more convenient for residents and families accessing the school.
There is no funding committed yet for a rail extension but Renewal SA is planning for a park and ride to cater for 600 to 1000 cars.
Many residents and the council had also requested that the “green triangle” on Quinliven Rd be kept as open space.
Much of this land is still proposed for residential development, however, the eastern and northern ends have now been put forward as reserves.
Renewal SA has previously said that it wants to ensure future developments are “seamlessly linked” with the existing Aldinga area and the broader region.
The plan can be viewed on the Renewal SA website.
Feedback on the Aldinga draft structure plan closes on June 21.
