Pepper Tree Cafe has applied to Onkaparinga Council to trade 7 days a week

Aldinga’s popular live music venue, Pepper Tree Cafe, has applied to Onkaparinga Council to open seven days with outdoor dining.

Is this Sydney's most dangerous cafe strip?

RESIDENTS can now have their say on whether an Aldinga cafe should be allowed to extend its opening hours and establish outdoor dining.

Pepper Tree Cafe on Old Coach Rd has applied to Onkaparinga Council to allow it to trade seven days a week and serve patrons outdoors.

The application was lodged in October, with public consultation by the council now underway.

Currently, the cafe can open on Friday and Saturday nights, between 6pm and midnight, and at other times only with special approval.

If the bid is successful, it would be able to open:

Monday to Thursday 11am-8pm for lunch, dinner and takeaway.

Friday and Saturday (plus Sunday on public holiday weekends) 11am-midnight.

Playing or streaming music outside would be banned.

Music inside would not start until 8.30pm, as is currently the case.

Owner Tanya Crago told the Southern TimesMessenger in October that extending the cafe’s hours would benefit the community, allow takeaway and help to serve nursing homes.

“We want to be like all the other cafes down the road that have seven-day trading,” Mrs Crago said.

“We don’t want music (apart from what we already have) — just coffee and lunch and all that sort of stuff. And being open more would be good for the local economy.

“It’s times like Father’s Day we have had to remain closed — and that’s worth money.”

Nearby residents have complained for years about loud music.

Neighbours have said patrons created disruptions when leaving the premises.

The council’s assessment panel in August allowed the Pepper Tree Cafe to play amplified music on Fridays and Saturdays under the condition a “noise limiter” was used.
