Southern suburbs locals have the chance to help decide the name of their newest coastal tourism route.
Onkaparinga Council has turned to the community to help name the new tourist drive stretching from O’Sullivan Beach to Sellicks Hill.
Onkaparinga Mayor Erin Thompson said the council hoped the drive would encourage visitors and locals to explore more of the council’s 31km coastline.
“We’ve always known our city’s 31km stretch of stunning coastline is among the best in the country, but developing a coastal tourist drive from O’Sullivan Beach to Sellicks Hill will help further put McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast on every visitor’s bucket list,” she said.
“The tourist drive will take in our much-loved beaches and coastal villages — each with their own unique vibes — as well as key visitor experiences.
“We want visitors to discover our stunning coastline but most of all, to stop, wander and spend in our coastal villages and main streets.
“We also want to encourage people to holiday in and explore their own backyards as we continue to emerge from the impacts of COVID-19.”
The council has suggested five possible names including Route 31 – SA’s Great Coastal Cruise, Route 31 – The Coastal Cruise, Coastal Clifftop Way, Coastal Experience and Wine Coast Drive.
The community can also submit their own suggestions on the Onkaparinga Council website until May 26
“The aim is to identify a name that resonates with our key visitor markets of intra and interstate travellers, as an increase in visitors will boost our unique local business community along the coast and surrounds,” Ms Thompson said.
A panel will consider all suggestions and decide on the final name.
