Past councillors, a lawyer and army veteran are among 18 candidates looking to fill an empty seat on Onkaparinga Council.
The Mid Coast Ward supplementary election was triggered by the resignation of Beau Cowan following a cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Nominations for the councillor position attracted 18 candidates ranging from experienced ex-councillors to local government newcomers.
Inaugural Onkaparinga Councillor Sue Tonkin and past councillors Jon Deakin and Heather Merritt put their hands up for a chance to return to council.
Unsuccessful 2018 Marion Council mayoral candidate Rob de Jonge is also campaigning to join current Mid Coast councillor Bill Jamieson.
The coastal ward takes in the suburbs of Reynella, Lonsdale, Christie Downs, Christies Beach, Port Noarlunga, Noarlunga Centre and Seaford Meadows.
Representing local businesses in the campaign race is Dan Platten of Noarlunga’s popular The Flour Store and McLaren Vale Business and Tourism Association secretary Anne Rhodes.
Retired carpenter Alan Hammond, ex-army Luke Munro and Supreme Court barrister Shikasta Bhatia round out the list.
Residents should receive their ballot papers by August 24 and voting closes on September 7.
