Detailed plans for a multimillion-dollar motel at McLaren Vale have been lodged with Onkaparinga Council.
An application to build a three-storey motel on Main Rd – in the carpark directly behind the McLaren Vale Central Shopping Centre – is currently out for public notification.
According to the plans, the motel would be called The Vines as a nod to McLaren Vale’s reputation as a world-class wine region.
It would include 82 rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a kitchen and a function room and be situated in the centre of the town.
The proposed restaurant and function room would be open 7 days a week from 6am to 10pm.
New parking spaces would also be built.
The proposal has been welcomed by McLaren Vale Business and Tourism Association
president Sandy Mount who told The Advertiser it was fantastic news when the plan was first announced earlier this year.
“The major factor with tourism in McLaren Vale is that we are close enough to the CBD of Adelaide to attract visitors on a daily basis but with the lack of modern, quality accommodation those visitors return to Adelaide at the end of the day,” Mr Mount said.
“The location of this proposed hotel in the centre of town is excellent — it will draw visitors into the town and if tourists have the opportunity to stay overnight in the township in quality accommodation it will be excellent for the business community.”
The McLaren Vale Central proposal is one of several plans for new accommodation in the region.
Plans for a $30 million resort among the vineyards were lodged with the council earlier this month.
